FOBL Seeks New Blood

The FOBL, in the midst of its ten-year (real time) anniversary, is looking for some new blood. As with anything that lasts ten years, things are going to undergo some change. The FOBL has gotten older, owners have moved on to different things, some have even mellowed (others haven't and are just as twisted and infantile as ever).

The FOBL is currently made up of four 8-team divisions (32 teams total, down from it's peak of 36). Playoffs are handled old-school NHL style, with the top half of each division making it each year, the first two rounds of play intradivisional. In any given year, at least half the league has a shot.

What makes the FOBL different from other OOTP leagues? Its finances. We maintained a closed cash system - the amount of money available to go around is constant - that is calculated outside of the game. This isn't for everybody. It takes a little thought, and not everybody gets it. But it is something unique to the league, and it ensures that good teams will eventually be toppled, bad teams will inevitably improve.

There are many threads on the FOBL forums that explain finances, but I recently put together a number of infographics that detail the basics. In essence, it's a revenue sharing/cash distribution system.

The FOBL also (to date) has dealt with Free Agency outside of the game using a custom-built, eBay style bidding system. It's pretty nice (thanks to Daimyo for originally building it), though there's always room for improvement and it takes the participation of active, engaged owners to really make it work.

We are looking for at least one, possibly as many as three immediate owners. We are using the OOTP 11 engine to sim, and probably will for at least the next handful of seasons (migrations come with adjustment periods which slow things down, so it doesn't make sense to migrate to each new version if there isn't a very good reason).

There's my pitch. No, it's not in the baseball sim forum as I'm not sure many folks actually check that. I figure if there's a problem with having this thread here, it will slink off of the first page soon enough (and if it doesn't, more advertising for us!)

Thank you for your time.

At times I have thought about picking up OOTP and joining an MP league (I would be bored to death playing alone). However, I know myself.. and I would be very afraid that I would just disappear in the middle of a season.
