Endless Vista updates

I can't remember the last time I shut down my computer over the last month or two without Vista installing some updates? Is this a bug? Anybody else experiencing this?

I think there may be some kind of Vista bug with that kind of thing - I remember seeing tons of updates when I used to have Vista though. Might want to check the Microsoft knowledge base.

Undocumented feature. It's called "Upgrade to Win7."

Same problem is happening with Windows 7. There's a thread about it. Try manually installing the updates. That worked for me with Win7.

Pretty much every Tuesday for me.

I appreciate Bill Gates worrying about my computing safety, however.

There were a large number of updates to standard Windows fare like MovieMaker, IE (which I don't use, but better safe than even shittier) etc. in recent weeks, I noticed.

If there was only an OS that would prompt you before installing any updates...hmmm...oh yea, there is one. It ain't Windows.

Is this maybe a setting thing? Because XP at least prompts me before doing an update.

You can change that setting on Windows.

I don't know of any settings in Windows that would force a prompt to install a Windows update instead of them being automatic when you shut down. Not saying there isn't, but, I just don't know of any or where it would be found. The only thing that I can think of would be to start in the msconfig.

You can get to it by going into Run and then just type: msconfig, then go to the Services tab. Just be careful, it's not destructive like changing something in your registry is, but, could cause some headaches if you turn the wrong thing off.

Start -> Control Panel -> Windows Update -> Change Settings

Don't think I've noticed the Vista updates as much. I have noticed those damn Adobe updates.
