So how about that Sarah Palin and Glen Rice

This should probably really go in the strange news thread.

It doesn't really make question her political bona fides (of which there are none), but I enjoy salacious news stories as much as the next guy.

New Biography Claims Sarah Palin Had A One-Night Stand With Glen Rice In 1987

Quote:
New Biography Claims Sarah Palin Had A One-Night Stand With Glen Rice In 1987
The National Enquirer grabbed some details from the upcoming Joe McGinniss Sarah Palin book, and this chunk is too delightful not to share with you immediately. Apparently Palin had a fling with former Heat/Hornet/Laker Glen Rice while he was in college and while she was a sports reporter in Alaska, all the way back in 1987. Rice confirms it in the book.
Here's the Enquirer:

In the book, which will be published on September 20th, McGinniss claims Sarah had a steamy interracial hookup with basketball stud Glen Rice less than a year before she eloped with her husband Todd.

Sarah hooked up with the NBA great, then a 6-foot-8 junior at the University of Michigan when he was playing in a college basketball tournament in Alaska in 1987, the book says. At the time, Sarah, just out of college, was working as a sports reporter for the Anchorage TV station KTUU.

A publishing source told The ENQUIRER that McGinniss claims Sarah had a "fetish" for black men at the time and he quotes a friend as saying Sarah had "hauled (Rice's) ass down."
[...]
In the book, McGinniss quotes Rice as confirming the one-night stand.

We won't subject her journalistic ethics to any kind of scrutiny at this point, because, well, wow. And, oh, don't worry, we are all just as terribly confused as you are.

So Sarah Palin had a 1 night stand with Glen Rice back in '87. He was always good at nailing things from beyond the arc(tic circle)

NBA Live 98 Glen Rice was basically the Bo Jackson of basketball games. He was coming off a season where he shot 47% on 3's and lead the league in minutes played. No stamina issues(which I'm sure Palin appreciated).

I don't think that this should be held against Rice. We all did stupid things in college that we are not proud of.

Maybe that's what she meant when she said she could see Russia from her house?

I actually don't have a problem with their specifying interracial here. The majority of people likely to buy this book will have no clue who or what Glen Rice is.

Not that I am a huge Sarah Palin fan. And I get that part of this is the whole hypocritical family-values, abstinence-only thing.

But I would honestly rather live in a country where politicians could have some sort of a human life before they decided to run for office. Put another way, I actually trust someone more who in their early twenties says "Cool, I get to hook up with this rich, attractive athlete" instead of "Hmm. I'd better not hook up with this rich, attractive athlete because it might hurt my chances of being President in 30 years." The first person is normal. The second person is pathologically creepy.

I bet young Sarah Palin was a good time.

I also bet that at least a few dozen Palin/Rice parody porn movies were filmed in San Fernando Valley this morning.

Ya, I think it's fair to say Palin didn't have political aspirations at the time and had a very "normal" life for a young attractive woman.....I've always thought that if the Palin story ended with the Alaska governorship it'd be a great, grass roots, rags-to-relative riches, rise to power American success story. She just should have stayed in Alaska.

I have never had political aspirations in my life, but I can say that there were a ton of things I didn't do when I was younger because I didn't want them to come back to haunt me in my professional career, or hurt me on the way to that career. I'm not sure if that makes me creepy, or just a little too mature for my own good at such a young age.

It's not like this will really have any effect on her political career though, it's just funny because it's two famous people who don't appear to have anything in common. Like if you saw a this headline "New book reveals Nancy Grace had torrid one night stand with Kevin Duckworth." If you don't piss yourself laughing at that, something is wrong with you.

I, too, have had a pretty straight laced life. And part of that was/is with an eye to the future. "It'll end up on your permanent record" and all that.

But I still think that that is different than the stories you hear about, for example, John Roberts, Bill Clinton, Elena Kagan, etc. where the degree to which they had their eye on power from a very young age gives me a touch of the creeps.

All you and I were worried about was staying out of trouble enough so that we could get jobs that let us post on FOFC during the weekday.

Eh, I don't think drug addicts and smokers are disqualified from telling us those things are bad. Wouldn't they know best? Sometimes I think people forget what hypocrite means. And we're talking about premartial consensual sex...this isn't exactly scandal territory for either party. Trying to categorize it as such is a little silly.

Using your post as a springboard, not debating...

Can this really be hypocritical? She did something 20+ years ago that she is now preaching against. People can't change their minds or positions in 20+ years?
