...and the Bucs grab Albert Haynesworth off waivers.

meh...why not I guess...we lost another underachiver for the season (DT McCoy) so at least we can fill that void on our D-line.

Suddenly and unfortunately I have no choice but to wish this bum all the best.

For anyone wondering if their team should have picked up Haynesworth.

Bengals / Steelers! Woo!

The first real team we've played since San Francisco beat us 13-8.

Wow, what a joke. Fans should ask for their money back. I guess that would sum up his career very well.

Indeed, I'm very excited to see how the New Bengals handle the divisional games. They are always tight hard fought affairs. The next 4 weeks will show us just how good they are right now.

I am a combination of excited and terrified for this game. I think covering Wallace could be an issue for the Bengals, especially if they saw how Hall was biting on the back shoulder throw against Seattle.

I do think the Bengals can win however, always play the North teams tough. Maybe if they win and Dalton has a good performance he can get some ROY love over Newton.

I think the Bengals are going to get killed, but that's why they play the games.

Nah, you are playing at home. They just got done playing a physical draining game against the Ravens. They are ripe for a beatdown.

Tough game tonight...tough to pick who is going to win it. Both teams love to self destruct. If the Chargers can run the ball, they'll win. If they can't run against a team that gave up a ton of yards on the ground to Denver this past Sunday, well, I don't see it ending well for the Chargers.

If the Chargers can run:
28 - 14

If the Chargers can't run:
17 - 20

Who else knew you couldn't get pass interference on the outside receiver in a punt formation.

Palmer is 10 of 12 for 250 yards with 2 TDs. Looks like he might be getting the kinks smoothed out.

Unreal call there. Defender touches the ball with his ass and he is out of bounds and it's not a TD?

The Chargers turn losing games into an art form. They find new and usual ways to piss away games.

Id put them up there with the Vikings as most frustrating franchise to cheer for.

Really would like a Sak breakdown on 2 calls.

-No possibility of PI on the outer gunner? I gather this is why we never see this sort of fake punt. I think it's reasonable to say that Oak didn't know the rules if they called the play. And the SD defender didn't....otherwise he could have blasted the fuck out of the WR and got an easy pick. If this rule is so obscure that one could reasonably ascertain that common knowledge of the rule does not exist....the rule needs to be reworked possibly.

The out of bounds play in the end zone? I could understand if the defender made a hand touch play on the ball, but inadvertent non hand touching doesn't seem like it should affect the call.

At some point people need to start talking about Rivers and Romo in the same sentences. So much talent from both and never can get over the hump. Not to mention Rivers has consistently had much better talent, having a HOF tight end and a HOF RB and pretty decent WRs.

They are a good comparison. I think what has kept people from comparing them much to this point was that Rivers had a decent repuation of pulling out 4th quarter games until 2-3 years ago.

The personalities of these two are a lot different though. Romo is aloof to the point of annoying(not as bad as Jay Cutler) while Rivers whines and complains to anyone that will listen.

Both were BS calls. On PI on the gunner, there was another punt later in the game (4th QTR I believe) where one of the Raiders' gunners was called for Holding and it was a 5 yard penalty and an automatic first down. At least be consistent in your calls Hoculi.

The out of bounds play was a strange call. I'm guessing that the rule came down from the booth, but it's really ticky-tacky.

Finally, I'd just like to say that I enjoyed an NFL Network game for the first time. Bryant "Barney" Gumbel was the PBP man and it made a huge difference when the PBP man knew the players. Mayock's commentary was pretty good as well.

Jesus, does nobody remember how to defend Carson Palmer? You just sit back and play Cover 2, and make him throw intermediate routes, during which he will inevitably throw several passes WAY too fucking high. Sit back and enjoy the pick 6's that result.

Funniest tweet I saw about the Haynesworth situation was a RT of a general message stating that the Buccs game was blacked out this weekend. The comment: "Albert Haynesworth's ass is THAT BIG?!"

I didn't even see the Raiders/Chargers game, but after reading about this non-call of pass interference on the fake punt, I really appreciate the effort of the officials. There are some of those obscure rules out there that almost none of us know, and they have to remember and apply them on the rare instances that they occur. I get that it's their job to know that, but it's still impressive, especially when you have Joe Blow sitting in a sports bar thinking he's the biggest sports fan ever and knows everything.

NFL Rules Digest: Pass Interference

Just from reading that, I also learned that there's no pass interference at or behind the line of scrimmage. I didn't know that before. Good stuff.

He still damn near threw the game away last night with his inability to sense the rush or throw more than 4 or 5 different routes. The deep streak, the come back, the short out, the shovel pass, and the screen are about all he can do. He really does have a great passing arm, but he's less aware in the pocket than a blind and deaf man whose feet are numb and his arm is programmed only for those throws.

This makes me think the way to play a fade from now on is just to go stand out of bounds and touch the ball when the receiver gets it.

As a former LA Rams fan, I sorta gave up on being a "fan" of a football team a long, long time ago. I still watched football, of course, but I watched it for the football. Then I started to get into fantasy football, so it became natural for me to root for my players, or to become a fan who roots for individuals over the team, and offense (producing fantasy points) over defense (stopping fantasy points).

So it's in that context that I offer up a change of heart I had last night. I have always liked the Chargers' players, particularly LT when he was there and Gates. The Chargers were fun to watch, so they generally made for a good show. And being in LA, apparently a "secondary market" of San Diego, I was subjected to a lot of Chargers games anyway. Similarly, I could not stand the Raiders, how their organization was run, the arrogance, the Bay Area fans and the locals who never let go of the Raiders after they went back to Oakland.

My change of heart was my realization that I was rooting for the Raiders to win and that I really did not much like the Chargers. Reason being, the Chargers don't do what they're freakin' supposed to. They're supposed to be a title contender, with this great offense. But they consistently underachieve, both within games and in seasons as a whole. When a team does this so consistently, it really irks me. I can't count on them for winning or losing games they should. And I can't stand stupidity, and there are just dumb decisions made all the time, particularly by Norv Turner and Phillip Rivers. Like the end zone shot where Rivers threw the interception. Just dumb on so many levels. And if you blame that one on Vincent Jackson (I don't), well, there's another Rhodes scholar for ya. Stupdity and laziness. I can't stand these traits. And they lead to teams like the Chargers.

Haha...not enough words in that sentence.

I don't think it's just Norv, although he's obviously a key component.

So the Broncos just got finished running for almost 300 yards this past Sunday against the Raiders. So, what does Norv "The Genius" Turner do? He stays away from the run. STROKE OF GENIUS NORV!! Absolutely top notch coaching you brought to the game last night. Please, please continue this masterful approach to coaching. I can only hope that AJ Smith can pull his inflated ego out of his ass long enough to see what you are doing to this team and fire you.

Sadly, not surprised by this:

Man stabbed during fight after Raiders-Chargers game - NFL - CBSSports.com Football

At one point in the game, when the camera panned the crowd, and you could see pockets of Raiders and Chargers fans, my thoughts immediately flashed to the Giants/Dodgers incident. I wasn't aware of the earlier Raiders/9ers issue.

Not the first Raiders/Chargers game to have a stabbing. At least this one happened after the game and not in the stands during the game, like the last one.

I'm trying to decide whether to feel guilty about the Panthers hiring away Rivera and Chud from San Diego, especially Chud. It definitely looks like Rivers has gone to pot this year (and it kills me a bit to say that about one of the best Wolfpack football players in history) while, perhaps coincidentally, Cam Newton has done everything but win football games for the Panthers.
