Official 2011 College Football Bowl Season thread

The Heisman winner is about to be announced. To me, the Heisman ceremony was always the official start of the bowl season. The first game is a week from today.

And it is RG3. Never thought I'd see a Heisman winner from Baylor. Congrats!

Maybe the Eagles can finish with a high enough pick to land him. That way they can dump that over-rated dirtbag they have at QB now.

I read on ESPN that VT had only sold half of its tickets by the beginning of this week. So much for them traveling well.

After so many years of bowl games and so many trips, most VT fans know the same thing I do...stubhub is a better deal than buying through the school. It sucks for the university, but when I can get two tickets on the secondary market for the price of one 'official' VT ticket, I know where my money is going. VT fans will show up in force (like we always do), but don't look at the school's sales numbers as any sort of verification of that.

WVU and Clemson sales have been reportedly awful, as well. I think WVU was around 7500 and Clemson 5600 last that I saw.

The BCS bowls require the schools to buy 17,500 tickets at ridiculous prices, but give them the worst seats in the house and you don't get any say in your placement when you order (at least through our AD), so the bowl can sell the prime seats themselves. As VPI97 said, I have no doubt that WVU and Clemson fans will be in full force.

This isn't just an issue for college bowls. It's basically every sport. I heard the other day that you can basically pick up an entire season's worth of NBA tickets - not the same seats, but in the same section, within a few rows of each other - for a lot cheaper a la carte on stubhub than buying a season ticket package from the team.

The way the calendar sets up this year, "New Years Day" bowl day is going to suck.

Since January 1st is a Sunday, there's no college football that day. Those games are on the 2nd. I'm off work, but the kids are in school. That day is usually a really nice family day, sitting around, taking down the tree, watching football. Instead, they'll be at school, it'll be a day later, and it'll only be me and the wife - ensuring that I watch less football than I would if it was January 1st and we were all home together. Bah humbug.

Bowl kickoff is ongoing. Wyoming v. Temple in the New Mexico Bowl. Teams are evenly matched, so it ought to be a good game.

Nice breakdown here: http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-footbal...xico-bowl-2011

Yeah Orange bowl is Wednesday after New Years....kids go back to school Monday, so hard to then turn around and hold them out a few more days for a trip to Miami.

That will cost them a couple ticket sales from me (wife and I will still go, but cant bring the kids) and I am sure many others.

I bought my tix through the University, but only because I am top 20 in priority points and can get great seats that way. Many of my friends picked them up through stub hub.

CLemson will represent this well, as I m sure WVU will also.

That New Orleans Bowl was an entertaining game. Lots of lead changes late in the game. San Diego State scored with about 30 seconds left to take the lead, and Louisiana-Lafayette, in their first bowl game in 41 years, kick a 50 yard FG as time expires to win.

Just got home from the NOLA bowl last night, what a game. It was an attendance record for the bowl, mostly UL fans. What a season it has been, and what a game to end it. That kicker was clutch with that kick.

Didn't see this mentioned anywhere else, and not sure of the best place to put it. Larry Scott mentioned that the Pac-12 is looking to play some games in China, and the first game could be the 2013 Stanford-Notre Dame game.

Because travelling to China won't take any extra time away from classes. You know, the reason they keep saying is why they don't want to play an extra week or two for a playoff.

We already took a day off for Thanksgiving to travel and we'll be taking another at the end of January for an out of state indoor softball tournament, so that ain't happening.

I didn't see the game, but I can't believe Utah State found a way to blow yet another late lead. That team finished 7-6 and I believe they held a 4th quarter lead - some by double digits - in all 6 losses. Simply unbelievable. Started with the Auburn debacle and ended with Ohio. Wow.

‘Tis the season for dumb theft arrests at Florida State - Dr. Saturday - NCAAF*Blog - Yahoo! Sports

So a Florida State player turns himself in after stealing a fellow students iPad and logging on to the FSU network with it. If he would have waited a few days, he could have gotten one as part of his Champ Sports bowl swag.

And the other dude steals a scooter, drives it 1/10th of a mile back to his place, and the cops follow the tracks right to him.

Maybe this can be evidence in support of a playoff. If we didn't have 4-5 weeks off between the regular season and bowls, it would minimize the chances of these kids being stupid and getting arrested.

One of the interesting mentions in "The Blind Side" is how in the area Michael Oher grew up in, folks generally thought that if you owned something you liked, you secured it, so if it wasn't battened down, you were free to take it. Seems like a pretty prevalent opinion.

So Craig James is seriously going to run for Senate. There's a part of me that hopes/wishes this is his cover for ESPN parting ways with him as they head into 2012 because of the fallout from the Leach debacle and a recognition of how unpopular he is with sports fans. But I'm sure that's not the case.

He does have a proven track record of accepting under the table money, so he should fit right in if he wins.

Kind of bugged me how ESPN had a tagline of how TCU is off to better things than the Poinsettia Bowl now that they are going to the Big 12. I'm fully aware TCU likely didn't want to be there and they will have a shot at better bowls ahead, but it just seemed classless how it was worded. TCU won in a solid game though.

50 wins for the Boise St. senior class, that's the first class ever to do that. 50-3 overall, with the 3 losses by a total of 5 points (if only there was a good kicker in that senior class....). And this was all after the big Fiesta Bowl win against Oklahoma that put the program on the map. Sure, it took 12-game regular season schedules and a team that outgrew its conference, but still a great accomplishment for those seniors and that program.

Ericksson fucked up that ASU program even more than what it was when he got there. If there ever was a coach living on the laurels of a few good seasons waaaay back in his career, it is that douchebag. This coming from someone who doesn't even like ASU.

Amazing how a missed field goal cost BSU so much in the end. This team deserved better than the Las Vegas Bowl, but this is the system we are using so *shurg*....

Good riddance to the Butch Davis coaching era at UNC. Tons of present and soon-to-be NFL contributors were on the roster (particularly the defense, though we saw Mizzou carve it up yesterday), and 8-5/8-5/8-5/8-5/7-6 with NCAA trouble and ZERO wins over NC State is all we have to show for it.

Purdue/WMU was pretty entertaining. 2 successful 1st half onsides kicks for Purdue, a kickoff return for TD, 6 TOs for WMU including 2 where Purdue turned it back over during the runback, a 2 point conversion, and other oddities.

David Ash must be one of those players that looks like a world beater in practice, but disappears in games. I can't figure out why the coaches are still giving him the ball, when he has looked horrible in each start he's gotten this season. He has been completely unable the throw the ball so far tonight.

Awesome defensive display tonight by the 'Horns. If they can get halfway decent QB play next season, they should be right back to where they were from '99 to 2009.

FSU/ND, both teams are playing awful, can only hope that Wash/Baylor is better than this pile.

Thank goodness for the fumble return for TD as they could have been playing all night. Worst Bowl Game Of All Time. I would bet my money that there will be no more points scored.

lol @ Kelly telling his QB, "That's the safety" after he threw a pick deep in the endzone. Douche.

Florida State wins 18-14. What an ugly game, but I am happy we were able to come out victorious. I hope our offensive line improves next season, because next season will be tougher.

Watching/listening to the ND-FSU game, I'm reminded of the old adage about a team with two quarterbacks actually being a team with none.
