Transfering game (and solo career data) from one computer to another.
The computer that I have my 6.2 version of FOF on is showing signs of going caput so I figure it is about time for me to get an updated computer.
When I get my new computer I figure I will just update to the 6.4 version. I already downloaded the program that allows you to update your saved career data from 6.2 to 6.3 or higher. Do I just contact the website and ask for a new license when I finally get my new computer or do I need a new license at all if I want to transfer from 6.2 to 6.4 on an entirely different computer. Also I know how to update my saved games information from 6.2 to 6.4 but once that is done can I just transfer my saved games to my new computer via a flash drive. And does the fof provide an easy way for you to put your old saved games on an entirely new version of the game (for instance when you first open it up will it provide a link for you to put data from a separate file into the game). Thanks. |

You get two licenses per key, so you should be good. Failing that, you can always deactivate FOF on the old computer, then reactivate on the new one.
The "save game converter" doesn't actually do any converting. The only difference from 6.2 to 6.3 or 4 or whenever they made the change is the location of your save files. Whereas they used to be in (I believe) the Program Files\Sole\FOF folder, they are now located somewhere under Application Data. So find the solecismic folder somewhere in there (there may be places on the forum that list the exact directory for Win 7, or Win XP, etc) and just copy over the save game files. That should do it. |

The game does not give you any help in this regard, sadly.
However, just locate the "universe" folder on your old PC, and copy all the files inside over to the "universe" folder on your new PC, and you ought to be good to go. Last edited by QuikSand : 05-28-2012 at 07:50 AM. |
