Why would you have your 7 year old daughter outside at 10:45pm helping you sell candy in a gang infested area of Chicago?

I lived in Baltimore for a couple of years. There was an area called Clifton Park which was the former home/estate of Hopkins and his family. The estate is now a golf course and a park surrounded by the poor and roughest part of Baltimore.

I played golf on more than one occasion on the site. It was relatively quiet during the day, despite the fact that the police had a helicopter in the air 24/7 over the neighborhood. But the golf course had a strict curfew of 45 minutes before sundown. They would come out and round up golfers to make sure that they were closed up and out of there by sundown at the latest. After that time, the area was a cauldron of drugs and gunfire every single night. Scary situation that sounds much like this story.
