New Orleans: Who Dat?
A couple days left in my trip. I have plenty of suggestions on other places to try to see if I have the time. What I have just become interested in finding out more about is where to avoid?
It depends on who you ask as to whether I was an idiot for walking from my hotel to Bourbon Street the other day. I had no idea, it never really dawned on me that there could be trouble. It seemed like a regular area that I was walking through so I didn't think twice about it at that time. (somewhat funny because one of the guys who always calls me uptight thought I was insane for doing that.... who is uptight now bi***? )I will be taking a woman who is over from our India office around the city a little either later today or tomorrow so I wanted to find out some ideas on what to avoid if anyone has any first hand knowledge (don't want to be responsible for getting into any trouble while she is with me, putting myself in harm's way is one thing but not someone else). I have asked some of the locals but I have gotten extremely mixed results (there are some places that all have pretty much agreed on as being areas to avoid, which I have so far, but there are a lot of areas that some say are perfectly safe and others say avoid at all costs with one of those areas being where I walked through. Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Near the Super Dome.
With the weather today that pretty much scrapped any plans we had. This has been a wet week. |

What time were you walking to Bourbon St? It shouldn't be any problem as long as you play it smart and stick to the main thoroughfares.

Lafitte's is one of my favorite bars in the country. Super old building in French Quarter.
Garden district is great for walking and looking at the houses. St. Charles streetcar is decent people watching as well.
