Fantasy Football Keepers Advice
The deadline to select keepers for my fantasy league is coming up in about a week. Can only pick 2 players to keep, and keeping him will cost a draft pick 2 rounds higher than where he was picked the previous year. (Keeping a guy who was picked in round 10 last year would cost an 8th round pick)
The 4 guys I'm trying to choose between are: Ryan Matthews - would cost a 3rd Jimmy Graham - would cost a 5th AJ Green - would cost a 9th Julio Jones - would cost a a 5th Jones is probably my least likely to keep, but I can't decide between the other 3. Right now I'm leaning towards Matthews and Green, but I've been flip flopping for several weeks now. Any advice?

What's the scoring and roster rules?
I keep Graham instead of Green depending on those.

I agree with Spleen, I would keep Graham-Matthews as well, particularly if you guys are PPR.

6 points for all TDs, .5 PPR, 1 point per 20 yards receiving/rushing, 1 point per 50 yards passing, fractional scoring, and -2 points per fumble lost/interception.
14 teams, start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 DEF, and 1 K Keep three: Calvin Johnson (obvious) Larry Fitzgerald (seems like a safe pick) Comes down to Adrian Peterson Matt Stafford Leaning towards Stafford because of a TD leaning scoring system, Peterson coming off injury, and because I also have Calvin Johnson. Thoughts? |

Yeah, I keep Stafford because of the 6 point touchdowns and I like doubling up CJ and Stafford.

7th rounder for A.J. Green seems pretty good. I'm a big fan of Jimmy Graham so I might actually go with him as the other keeper. He provides a huge weekly advantage at TE every week. More ways to win in fantasy football then there used to be. |

All four of those guys are fantastic keepers at their respective values, but Jones is out because he has similar value to Green but costs you a pick 4 rounds earlier. I think you have to keep Matthews and then decide between Graham and Green. Graham is the superior player and in round 5 you are looking at players like Redman and Green Ellis. I would go with Graham Last edited by Danny : 08-06-2012 at 09:12 PM. |

No PPR. Scoring is: Rushing Yards 10 yards per point; 2 points at 150 yards; 2 points at 200 yards; 2 points at 250 yards Rushing Touchdowns 6 Reception Yards 10 yards per point; 2 points at 150 yards; 2 points at 200 yards; 2 points at 250 yards Reception Touchdowns 6 Roster rules are QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, Flex.

I think the real question is Green vs Graham. As already posted, Jones is similar in value to Green, but he costs more to keep, so he's out. Matthews is the clear and easy number one, I think. I'd lean toward Green instead of Graham because the 9th round pick is pretty much a crap shoot anyway, and there are a lot of good TE's around these days (Davis, Graham, Gronk, Hernandez, Gates).

We keep 6 in my league (no benefit to not keeping all 6), and I have 7 guys that I think are "worthy" of a keep. Here are my locks:
QB Peyton Manning RB Fred Jackson WR Roddy White Which leaves me three slots for the following people: QB Andy Dalton RB Beanie Wells RB Cedric Benson WR Miles Austin WR Denarius Moore TE Vernon Davis Chicago Bears Defense San Francisco 49ers Defense I'm leaning WR Austin, TE Davis and SF D, but can see an argument for Moore or Benson. Roster is QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, K, D. Interesting twist: Each team gets only 4 adds all season long. Typical scoring, Passing TDs worth 4 points, 10 yards per point rushing/receiving, 25 yards per point passing. Also, I'm aware that keeping 6 players is stupid and too many. |

I'd like some advice as well... I think I'm keeping Chris Johnson and Tom Brady, but Jimmy Graham is hard to let go. It's between those three and Victor Cruz. 4pt for passing td. Thanks!

Vince: I wouldn't keep a D. Austin and Davis for sure... not sure on the last one.

Normally, keeping a D is wrong. But he only gets four adds all season long. The strategy of "pick the best FA D every week" is out of play. In that instance, I think that keeping a D has to be in play. |

You should reconsider your position on Jones, as he's likely to end up as the best player you have listed. If it were me, I'd go with Jones and Graham. Matthews is far too injury-prone and while Green is good, I don't think he'll end up as good as Jones and graham in the long run. |

Dalton is the easy pick here. I'd probably go with Davis and Austin for my other 2. Don't keep a "D". |

I guess I need to know the history of the league a bit (in terms of keeping D). If the top 3 or top 5 D are kept normally, then I'd keep one of the D (likely 49ers). But if maybe only one D is kept every year... I'd gamble on some D out there int he draft and keep someone like Dalton. |

Yeah, it's the limit of 4 adds per season that really makes me think. This is my third season in the league, and we've swapped host sites a couple times so I'm not sure of the history of keeping D's. I'm pretty sure at least 4 will be kept (6 is just so many players to keep).

A question I'm pondering today. One keeper in an IDP league where the cost of a keeper is a draft spot two rounds higher than the player was taken the previous year. Hence, the keeper cannot be one of your picks from the first two rounds of the previous year.
My choices are: RB Roy Helu, WSH (costs a 12th round pick this year) WR Vincent Jackson, TBY (costs an 8th rounnd pick this year) I view Jackson as the safer choice (I don't really want any part of Shanahan's backfield) but am inclined to keep Helu as a better value in the clusterf**k RB market of this year. Any thoughts? |

Jackson seems a no-brainer to me. Washington is just as likely to have a guy who nobody has heard of lead them in rushing as they are to have Helu lead them.

Thanks for the vote, Julio. Incidentally I went to a bar once in Bryson City while visiting the Nantahala Gorge. Had a good time as I recall. I loved the river. This was years ago, during college.

We have a brewery here now, probably one of the best on the whole east coast. I used to live right next to that bar in the building the brewery is now in. This town has lots to offer, but somehow it still manages to have a southern good ol' boy feel to it, which is probably the only drawback to it. The gorge is awesome though. If I had the money to put a house up there somewhere I would in a heartbeat.
