What happened? comments on this match needed
Being a HT newbie still, I could use some insight from those with more experience into what happened in this situation.
If you see my other thread, "Thinking of MOTSing", I had a big game at home against the current series leaders in VI.913, Lecavians. Since I was at home, and didn't want to take the TS hit right now, I played normal, and lost 1-3. The match report, ratings, and my starting lineup is below. What I would like to know is, what happened? They just got the breaks? They are just superior? (keep in mind, they are a new team like me, and have made only a few token transfers, i.e. non-starters) They beat me at paper/rock/scissors tactically? They MOTSed? (don't think they would.) Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this and make comments. -------------- Greenlight Superior FC - lecavians 1 - 3 Date: 4/28/2003 at 01:00 MatchID: 5606389 Arena: Greenlight Superior FC Arena Crowd: 10000 10000 spectators had come to Greenlight Superior FC Arena this cloudy day. Greenlight tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. They fielded: Himmel - Rodquist, Xi, Beocksteiner - Johnson, Álamo, Harley, Guerra, Colvin - Cline, Lowery. ED: 2 cd's and Rodquist a Wing Back Team orders -- GSFC Rodquist -> Defensive ,Johnson ->Toward Middle (Experimented with this one, probably won't do it on a regular basis), Alamo ->Offensive, Colvin -> Offensive ) lecavians started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Lineup: Nault - White, Coyle, Breaux - Sams, Jiménez, Smalls, Rubin, Wylie - Baughman, Argiolas Porru. (ED: 2 CD's, White Wing Back Team Orders -- Coyle -- toward wing, Sams -- offensive, Rubin -- offensive, Jimenez -- Defensive, Wylie -- Defensive ) lecavians took the lead in the games 4:th minute with 0 - 1 after some elegant plays down the middle. Charles Baughman was the scorer. Greenlights Daniel Beocksteiner got himself booked after a foul. Virgil Breaux the unlucky victim, couldn´t continue the game. A well placed corner kick from Charles Baughman was followed by Steve Smalls´s hard but accurate header. The nice combination meant 0-2 for lecavians. In the37:th minute Charles Colvin surprised the guests goaltender with a snappy free kick, reducering their lead to 1 - 2. The referee showed lecavianss Adalberto Jiménez the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Adalberto Jiménez increased the visitors lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 1 - 3. lecavianss Justin White got himself booked after a foul. Halftime score was 1 - 3. Greenlight held the ball, with a clear 67 percent possession rate. The crowd was amused as Marlin Wylie of lecavians used a few interesting tricks and dribbles to get into the penalty box. The finish wasn´t very amusing, though. Ashley Lowery was very close to reducing for Greenlight in the 70:th minute, but the visitors right back got his foot out just in the nick of time, blocking to a corner. Greenlight had a brilliant opportunity to reply as Ashley Lowery received a high ball from the right, striking the ball still in the air. Only Charles-David Nault´s reflexes saved him. The referee showed lecavianss Marlin Wylie the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Darrell Cline the unlucky victim, couldn´t continue the game. After 86 minutes Jorge Zuazo could have reduced had it not been for an excellent block by the visitors keeper Charles-David Nault. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, lecavians´s Seymour Rubin got himself booked. Greenlight held the ball, with a clear 80 percent possession rate. Most important Greenlight player was Charles Colvin. Jerry Johnson was a disappointment, however. lecavians´s best player was Justin White. However, Charles-David Nault made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 1 - 3. Without looking into things too deeply, I'd say that losing this match was more a matter of good luck for the other club than anything else. Their 2nd goal was an event goal (set pieces/header combination), and their keeper played out of his head, making two spectacular saves to keep you from tying it up.
A surprising result, given your midfield advantage, but not entirely unheard of.

I've lost with 95% possesion... SO that means when they had the ball for the 5% they beat my better rated defense and won.
ya know... wierd things happen. take it to heart that 99 times out of 100 you wouldn't have lost. They won the lottery... that's all.

Quote:
ok that's cool. As a new player, I'm not very good at evaluating all the variables that combine to form team performance yet. From what I've gathered, I was not out-talented, or necessarily out-coached, only out-played....? I guess another question I might have is what was I lacking besides luck (if anything) that caused me to convert so few of my chances since I dominated the posession? Is this scoring or playmaking, or both, or neither? I apologize if these questions are nieve. Last edited by Richards : 04-29-2003 at 03:23 PM. |
