32-yard short pass with 0 YAC

Weird thing, timing plays Short pass? More like a bomb to the end zone.

Just thought I'd share. I did a double take when no further explanation resulted from the play. The TE had 2 YAC total on the day, on 2 catches.

"Timing is the ability to hit a player who deviates from the planned play". So it could be that the reciever probably was supposed to run a short pass but ended up going deep.

Maybe he was trying to think about which Super Mario game he liked best and ended up getting distracted and ran the wrong route.

In anycase I notice that when the defense is playing well and the cornerbacks are clamping down on the receivers medium and short passes tend to be thrown shorter than they are when the defense is struggling.

Ditto sidtheilid...

I've seen this "quite" a bit also...nice feature of game that shows what a good QB/receiver combo can do when they get on the same page.

I like the plays when the receiver ran his route over the middle of the field...... for 1 yard.

So if the route is deviated and is now a long pass, why would sole say short pass? Is it because the text doesn't take into account that a route has changed and simply prints out what the original route was run (suggesting it was a short route)?

Yes. IIRC, Jim made a joke about this fairly shortly after the FOF2K7 release, either on these boards or at IHOF. It was something along the lines of "the Solevision announcer is miked into the huddle so he knows what play is called."
