Does anyone have experience with this? Been hearing from people who have it and love it. Considering getting it but it is a hefty investment.

I was thinking of throwing one in the bedroom, one in my home office, one in a bathroom and one synced to the receiver in the living room. How easily does it sync with music software? I'd like to use it for some Pandora but also for my music collection that is a mix of iTunes and other sources. I guess I'd just have to use an iTunes library.

I'd possibly pm CUTiger. The other thing is that I'm not sure how well it works, but apparently the Airport express thingy's are pretty handy. At 100$ a pop they can integrate with existing radios you might already have and that should save you a ton of money.

It might be worth doing some comparison shopping on that.

Friend of ours has it in three rooms and controls it from an ipad they keep in the living room. Sound is very good to my ears.

Thinking about splurging on it as well after next bonus time.

So we got our house robbed about six weeks ago which sucked but it's just stuff and they didn't hurt the (clearly incompetent watch) dog so y'know. Anyway, there is no point using the insurance money to replace sentimental things that can't be replaced so we used part of it to buy a Sonos system, one small speaker, one big one and the boost accessory to increase signal (it actually sets up a separate wifi channel to run the signal through? i'm not technical).

Point is, OH MY GOD THIS THING IS FANTASTIC. Can play any of my music library, streaming radio or Pandora or whatever. I can have one speaker playing one thing in one room and the other playing something totally different -- or sync them up to work in stereo. Sound reminds me of my old Bose wave radio, seems very clean so far. I could see getting the subwoofer down the road though, hard to get floor shaking bass.

Main complaint is my wife pranking me from the other side of the house by fucking with the volume or changing songs.

So this thread is now 2.5 years old and I still haven't the foggiest flying f. what anybody is talking about.

I mean, I can extrapolate from the comments but aside from this, I've never even heard the word Sonos used. (I actually figured this was a game thread or something)

I have it in 5 rooms, including surround sound setup for my living room. Running the gambit with 1, 3, Bar and 5 models. It's great. I use it mostly for Pandora, Spotify, XM, TV, occasionally AM/FM. And there is of course dozens of other supported services.

Economically it's not fantastic and I suspect at some point in time there will be competition that is cheaper and better. But if you can spare the change you likely won't be disappointed.

In case anyone still is trying to picture it. Imagine a speaker(s) in every room in your house, wirelessly connected to a receiver that is able to output music from every internet based audio source imaginable as well as Dolby 5.1 for your TV. With the ability to play from a different source in every room simultaneously at any given time, or group select rooms together at once.

Toss the receiver and replace it with your phone(and/or tablet) and that's it. Pretty slick.

My only disappointmenst is on the surround sound. It is optical in/out only, no HDMI, which does not support DTS. So you basically only get Dolby, if you want DTS you need to put a receiver back in the picture to convert the signal. Also you are by and large paying for simplicity, flexibility and convenience. I love the sound quality, but if you are an audiophile you can likely get better for cheaper, just without the convenience.

Heh. Yeah, wireless speaker system. Well, the speakers to have to be plugged in to an outlet but basically portable. The big speaker I got is maybe a foot high by 18" wide. Small one is like a canister.

Yeah it's not cheap, my three components ended up around $650. But I paid close to a grand for my first real stereo system back around 1980 and with this I don't need a CD, turntable or receiver.

Sonos and the ilk are what drove me to get out of the business.

The whole concept is automating what we hardwired to make possible.

Never mind that folks pay more today than we charged 10 years ago and get inferior tech with less options.

In other words....STAY OFF MY LAWN.

Also I didn't buy it all at once. Ability to buy a single new one, get it in a new room and integrated with the system in literally 5 minutes is huge.

We have a canister in every room.. 8 so far. The convenience is just awesome! All run off of an iPad. Highly recommend sonos. Basically plug and play.

By less options....With the right setup it was literally limitless what you could distribute. 12 different feeds in 12 rooms? No problem
Want to feed 2 separate feeds into the same speaker. Sure.
Why the hell would you? No clue but you could !!!

Inferior tech...absolutely. The audio compression...wait I guess that falls under sound quality.
