HUH?!? What are you talking about? I'm not following you here.

I still have not updated the rankings with the cup results. Your team is still in there at #34...

daytrade? HA I can't bid 1k on a player lol....

"you don't have enough funds to make that offer"

If I knew the values to daytrade, I'd be much wealthier than I am lol

Hi I'm Qwikshot, and I was a daytrader, I don't daytrade anymore.

I wish my debt was from daytrading lol... instead I'm stuck with -193k (-222k saturday night) from dumb "I'm new and don't know what I'm doing, so I'll hit the transfer wire" mistakes. Oh what I'd give to have it all over to do again

-Panther and others, as I have signed-up for a team but not gotten one yet, what exactly are are the mistakes you refer to so I don't make them...or should I start a new thread?

even with our help you are bound to make several stupid or foolish mistakes early while you are still learning the game. It's all well and good to get lots of advice and read(and re-read) the rules, but nothing beats actually game experience

wait before you really know what a good player is before trying to marginally improve your team. By that, I mean learn what skills are needed for what position, i.e. scoring/passing for a forward, etc...

Look at your team very, very well. Maybe post your roster in a separate thread in here for other to comment on. Try to find who's worth anything and who needs to be fired rightaway...

I'm sure others can think of many other things not to do in the beginning

until you've got a firm grasp on how the TW works and a somewhat decent knowledge of what's 'acceptable' for a specific
skill/value, stay away from the transfer wire .

also, don't fill your team with all 17-18 y/o players. only get the
young trainees for what you intend to train. If you're training
playmaking, why pay 200k for a 17 y/o solid scorer when you can
pay 100-125k for an older one that will do just fine. The 17 y/o
won't get any playmaking training since he's playing Forward, so
why get one that young and pay so much more....

Me, I paid 'high' prices for mediocre players because I didn't know
what the 'acceptable' price range for that type of player was.

hence the 190-220k debt I'm crawling out of....

don't get worried or discouraged, if you don't make mistakes, you're doing something wrong.... mistakes lead to better knowledge and understanding of how the game works...

You could do what I did, and not get to involved transfer-wise until you've had your team for a few weeks and learned some of the ropes. I only made 1 "mistake" transfer-wise and it wasn't all that bad, really.

to each his own I guess, since we are talking about low skill level players, its not a bad idea to get the younger guys, especially if your in a low division.

My reasoning is that if you dont get promoted in the next few seasons, you dont have to worry about continually replacing your older guys, which just eats up more of your funds that you could be spending on slowly improving your team.

I'm not saying go get a bunch of 30+ y/o players... but 22-24 is a
good place to start and they're, for the most part, cheaper than
their younger counterparts. I've got 17-19 y/o guys all over (except middies ) simply because I still don't know what I want to
train. Scary isn't it? I'm seriously considering winger since it seems
to be a disliked training regement by many, more for me.

At 22-24 they can still be a little pricey. I would say go for 25-27 y/o players.

Here is what I reccomend. Take stock of your team, and use the website mybest team to set your first lineup. Also, go grab HAM while you are at it....

Now after you have done this, wait at least a few weeks before altering your lineups. Look at the players that consistantly get less that 2 stars ratings, these are the guys you want to replace.

http://hattrickgameday.tripod.com/hattrick/id16.html

read all of the info here, this gives you an idea of what is needed for each skill.

At the lower levels, midfield is crucial. I would reccomend you try to get the best midfield you can afford. Also if you keeper is worse than passable, upgrade him too.

Also, here are two sites that helped me quite a lot at the beginning of my new life as a hattricker:

Best of luck!
