Question on Blitzing DB's

If I blitz my SS/FS or CB's what skills determine their pass rush? What would I look at to say hey, that SS is a killer on blitzing?

I don't know for sure, but a better 40 time "should" help I would think. Fast always helps you get someplace quicker.

Unless there are hidden ratings, I don't think blitzing is calculated beyond where you want your extra blitzer to come from.

If you never blitz from your secondary, you are giving up 2 LB's in multiple blitzer packages, which seems to me would be a negative towards the short passing game, but blitzing a member of the secondary would put the pressure on the long passing defense. Just a theory.

So, why break them out if they don't have blitz ratings? Partly because the game allows you to choose which secondary member you don't mind leaving your deep zone package. Or, perhaps during run plays, those guys are added to the run defense and you want good run defense secondary guys to blitz.

Where I am going with this is a 3-3-5 and a 4-2-5 defense that blitz the SS or FS a lot, I would like to figure out a way to work this into the game, test it out and see what the results would roll into.

I am getting bored with the game and I am trying to think of inventive ways to play defense / offense in the game. Change things up, skew numbers and just have fun with it...

See if you can covert some heavy safeties to OLB and check the PRT & PRS bars see if BP and 40 still apply as PRT and PRS would be what I would do.

Not sure how heavy they need to be to be able to convert them though should give an idea of what works.

I will try this and figure some things out...

I remember Jim saying DB blitzing works scheme-wise only. No PR bars or anything. I bet the backs pick-up blitz bars apply, though.

Ok, I will dig some more into it. I just look at things like a 3-3-5 defense or the 4-2-5 where the SS is blitzing and can come from anywhere and wreck havoc, causing hurried throws, sacks and dump off passes. I want to see if it will translate into the game.

Yeah, I also remember Jim saying something to the effect that it's just a roll on if it's picked up or not.

Ooh these are some interesting ideas for how to approach it. I never use DB blitzing, myself -- I like leaving them in coverage.

With something to sparsely studied/understood, my working assumption remains that the in-game recommendations are at least a pretty good starting point. I tend to leave my run-stopper LBs numbers down a shade from what Rex suggests, and usually to send my SLB a bit more -- but in the main, I leave my DBs set to around 5% or so, or something similarly close to what Rex suggests. That seems like the vanilla play, and I judge that to be the best here. YMMV I suspect, but neither of us will ever know how much.

Doesn't 40-time just shows how good the DB potentially is in M2M and/or zone defense?

DB's are rated in the pass rush bars, but they're 'hidden' in the sense that you can't even get a reasonable peak at them with a non-executed position switch.

Personally I yanked the numbers down for DB, but not all the way to the 0's. That doesn't keep the nickel and dime from blitzing though.

That's why I quoted should, you would think it should help but how FOF generates pass rush for a DB ???????

fast 40 time would equate to PRT for a LB or DL so in a blitz situation "maybe" it applies to secondary guys. Hence my try the convert and see.

it would seem to make sense but may not actually mean anything, never looked into it, just gave a starting point for MG to start looking for something.
