Suck It, Cancer.
I lost my dad last night to lung cancer that had spread through his body. Two months ago he was fine. Got a little sick over Christmas. I took his grandson down to see him for the first time. A week later they diagnosed the cancer. I saw him the next week. He was half the man I saw just two weeks earlier. The hardest part was having him apologizing for not being the best dad he could have been.
I saw him again Friday. He was nearly gone. I didn't think it could get worse. It did on Saturday until it took him. I was the last person to talk to him before he passed. He couldn't talk but his eye moved slightly as I thanked him for everything. He was 72. Now I'm left writing a speech for him tomorrow that I've struggled with all day. It's hard to figure out what to leave out for a man that changed my family tree when I was 2 years old. I want to tell them everything. Thanks, dad, for changing my life. I'm forever in your debt.

Sorry for your loss, AE. My band and I held a benefit concert last night for Relay for Life to help fund cancer research, unwitting or not his memory was part of the celebration.

Had you on my mind today, pop, when the song, "You Love Me Anyway" came on during my morning run.
Thanks for loving me anyway. I wasn't yours. You didn't have to. Thankful you were there for me.

Sorry to read about your loss.
![]() Had my own personal cancer scare this year, which at 31 was not something I expected. Thankfully caught it early thanks to an unrelated health issue, and there's a very good chance that I'm in the clear, but it shook me big time as a close friend of mine lost her husband to cancer last year.

A year ago, today. I'll never forget where and when I was when he or my mom passed away. I'm a little jealous of my wife. She has both of her parents still, giving Davin a set of grandparents to love on.
If only I could have more time. Bah.

Had a rough few days, lost my cousin to cancer last Thursday (February 27, 2014). She was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2010, and was only given 6 months to live. She was a helluva fighter, and made it nearly 4 years. In the end, she had cancer in her spine, a tumor in her brain, and tumors in her lungs. After numerous surgeries and air lifts to the hospital, she finally succumbed.
She was only 44 years old. ![]()
