Mentors?

I know mentors help develop young talent. But I was wondering if just having them on the team helps or do I need to do anything special like start them etc?

I thought I heard people say you can pair up a mentor with a younger player. Is this automatic or is it a setting of some kind?

Sorry for the questions, new to the game. I checked briefly through the help files but didn't find much.

Thabks .

In previous versions I believe the mentor and young player both had to be active, but neither had to start. But young player development is intrinsically linked to the number of plays he is on the field, so it's definitely best to get the young players on the field as much as you can without harming your team.

I often sign mentors without great skills, particularly if there is an affinity, and keep them off the depth charts to minimise the chance of them getting on the field.

I thought mentors had to be active and in the depth chart to be effective.

Well not sure if it works the same in this version, but in the old version the mentor did not have to be active.

How do you know if there is an affinity until after you sign them? Or, do you just reload the previous save until you find one?

I am not sure if you know this or not, but if you try to sign any free agent, it does display whether he will be an affinity or not. Green means affinity, Blue means conflict.

Yup - and it will even say when you go to place the offer that so-and-so expresses excitement or disappointment.

Was this in the previous game or just in the new one (FOF7)? I do not remember ever seeing that in FOF2007.
