Friday Fun Poll: Horrific Sports Injuries!

In honor of this and this....

No actual deaths, however, because what is wrong with you?

Don't forget Tim Krumrie's leg. That was horrific.

Oh, new rule*: if you come up with one I haven't listed, you have to provide a youtube link.

And no, I won't post a link.

Dead? 1977 Tom Pryce during the South African Grand Prix.

No, I won't post a link to that either.

also Dale Earnheart. Dude died in the car with his son racing on the same track, doesn't get much more horrific than that

Not really an "injury" though.

Of the ones listed, Fabrice Muamba was the only one where it seemed like someone would die at the end of it.

Of the ones not listed, the Italian soccer player who actually did die of a heart attack on the field. Don't watch the video. Just don't.

This. Getting your jugular cut and spraying your life force all over the ice has to be the most horrifying.

Krumrie's leg was nasty. Dave Dravecky breaking his arm was also quite awful.

In baseball, Ray Chapman was killed by a pitch from Carl Mays - that's got to rank up there.

I've been proud of my ability to avoid watching a single replay of the Ware/George/Shaun Livingston injuries. I shadowed an orthopedic surgeon for a bit when I was in high school and was totally fine with what I saw there, but watching the injuries themselves just gives me chills. The most recent one on the list I've actually seen was probably McGahee.

Shit, should have voted other for Marlachuk after reading the comments.

Having forgotten about that, I went with Muamba. One of the few times I've been terrified watching live TV

Oh, and runner up to Malarchuk is Alex Zenardi.

Nope, won't post that one either. Two leg chunks flying through the air isn't very appetizing.

Didn't Jason Kendall break his ankle in a pretty disgusting way? I'm not looking it up because I'm grossed-out by broken bones, since I've had 9 of them (left ankle x 2, right ankle, right arm, left arm, right wrist, right forearm, left clavicle, left ring finger, right index finger).

Eight Belles getting euthanized on track after the 2008 Kentucky Derby wasn't a pretty sight.

Not at the level of Malarchuk, but Bryan Berard's eye injury was really hard to watch.

LOL.

I think all of tk's injuries were more gloious than mine. I'm just a freaking clutz and also did stupid things, such as breaking one ankle and then only waiting only a week to play basketball again, which resulted in me breaking the other ankle.

I can't believe I just said "LOL".

Where is Jason Kendall's ankle/foot break rounding 1st break...so horrific that his fellow Pirates ran up to help him and then ran back into the dugout from seeing the injury.

Ankle literally broke and was only held in place by skin.

"For better or worse, Jason Kendall – a three-time All-Star who played 15 years in the big leagues – is remembered most for breaking his ankle while trying to beat out a bunt on the Fourth of July in 1999. It was a gruesome injury – one that is difficult to watch and one that his Pittsburgh Pirates teammates could not discuss at length because they were so emotionally distraught.

Kendall, then 25, was told his career was likely over."

How about Ventura's leg...

Or any of the pitchers that have had balls ricochet off their heads...

Dave Dravecky's broken arm pitch was pretty gross. Probably not the most horrific ever, but neither is Joe Theismann, but that one is winning.

Losing an eye is pretty bad too.

I'd add Kevin Pearce... not because of what was caught on tape (it actually looked similar to a ton of other snowboarding falls) but because of what it did to his life. Just a crazy story. Crash reel was an eye opener for sure.

Tony Suanders, the guy who almost literally threw his arm off in one pitch?

Also I watched top Rangers prospect Ruben Mateo end his career running in hard to first and destroying his leg on the bag.
