Maryland will wear "Star Spangled Banner" jerseys this weekend against WVU to honor the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Baltimore.

I dig the outline of Fort McHenry on the helmet.

I wonder how many Top 25 games in the past few years that haven't involved Bama or Oregon have had more expectations of being very ugly?

The two tackles for Texas are still suspended. But the good thing is that the offensive line this week has twice the number of career starts as last week. The bad thing is the number of career starts is 10, with 5 of them coming last week.

Man, I would love to see your team wake up and just be strong for the rest of the season.

I am dumbfounded at some of the stuff I am reading, and I am taking it all with a grain of salt but it seems to me Strong has his players a little confused on what he wants.

cartman - Is Strong going to give Heard a shot? I saw him at Guyer, and while I think he was overrated, he cant be worse than Swoopes can he? If y'all dont find a way to keep defenses honest with a passing game, yall may not hit .500. Fix the offense and I'm positive it helps the D.

BYU will open up at home with Houston.

I miss seeing Lavell Edwards Stadium and being there. It is honestly one of the greatest backdrops for a stadium there is.

Swoopes didn't play too bad last week. He was hitting consistently on short and medium passes, and they never really let him make many down field throws. I put the offensive struggles on the O-Line. There were zero holes for the RBs. I realize they were stacking the box, but even so, there was just nothing for the runners to try and take advantage of. Not sure if the reason for no down field throws was that they didn't think the O-Line could consistently hold hold blocks, if Swoopes didn't show consistency with those throws in practice, or a combination of the two. Evidently, for Heard, the issue is that he's having a hard time picking up the playbook.

I'm excited that I finally get to head down to see a game in person. Should be a pretty good matchup with Central Florida coming to play Mizzou. Hoping for good weather and to track down a good tailgate party!

Iowa hosts the Cyclowns this weekend. This is their super bowl/national championship/bowl game. They come out fired up for this game, always.

Need a win to stay in the hunt.

ESPN is in Fargo for the Bison home opener. The Bison are set up for an easy home opener against Incarnate Word. A team that has lost 48-13 and 38-3. No question they better make it look easy on Saturday.

And no, I am not going. I have no money due to idiots crashing their truck in my car forcing me to replace it, and also having to get my wisdom teeth finally taken out, 15 years too late.

Awesome Matthean, Thanks.

And here you go fellas. You want a good article about the town and atmosphere I grew up in, here is an article from SI.com

Local flavor: In Iowa City there's always plenty of beer to go around - College Football - SI.com

The Magic Bus is owned and run by my former rugby club. It is how the club would fund raise. The club is not for profit and would get live entertainment and kegs of beer, set up and charge 5 bucks to get in and drink before games.

Good times in Iowa City.

So I guess since technically UCLA vs Texas in Dallas is a "neutral" site, both teams will be in their home unis. For UCLA, that means their colorful blue and gold unis, which are great. I am hoping that means we get the burnt orange for Texas, which I assume is their home unis. cartman, can you confirm?

Visually, that will be fun to see (similar for me with how USC and UCLA now play with home unis in their series).

UW gets a BIG10 team at home when we face Illinois. We are pretty big favorites, but this game has me concerned comsidering we have looked rather unimpressive barely beating Hawaii and Eastern Washington.

If we take care of business we get Georgia State at home the following week which should put us at 4-0 when Stanford rolls into Seattle.

I'm still on the fence this week because of the 11 AM start (and lack of people willing to make the trip with me) but if I am there my brother's tailgate is right outside the east entrance to the stadium (Over where the vendors set up) I am definitely going to Indiana if you, Mizzourah, Kodos, etc are looking for a tailgate.

My wife is due soon with twins so the September games may be the last live ones I make for a few seasons. (For sure for this season) I hope she understands when I come back from the IU game with a serious case of the Mizzou flu.

Rutgers just gave Flood a two year extension, and if the buyout hasn't stayed relatively the same (it was chump change originally) I will be screaming bloody murder. We could still end up 4-8 this year.

Somebody said the buyout increased to 1.4 million.

FYI to any of the Mizzou fans. I do have two extra tickets available at no cost if anyone wants them, but I need to know today if you do. They're not in the same section as where I'll be sitting, but the price can't be beat.

Not really for Rutgers, at least until the money starts rolling in more heavily in a couple years. But either way, I've heard the buyout will be covered with private money if the season goes to shit, so that's not really an issue. This was all about stability for recruiting. I just question the timing. All these stud recruits visiting for the Penn State game will have an amazing time as long as we don't get blown out, despite any potential lame duck status of Flood. And if we do get blown out, having a coach with an extension won't help any.

Sure, but we aren't getting a full share right away. Our revenue from the Big ten this year will be similar to what it would have been in the Big East / AAC last year. Either way reportedly it's being funded by boosters

So, since the buyout will be funded by boosters, why the consternation?

Well, that came out after the initial news for one. But more importantly, I still hesitate to believe that Rutgers/donors will step up when the time comes. Last year, Flood was gone...the buyout was going to be paid by boosters, but the problem was, those same boosters' eyes (for a new coach) were bigger than their stomachs (wallets). So when we couldn't get who we wanted at the price we could pay, they made the decision to keep Flood. Just horrible mismanagement, and it's a large part of the reason there was so much instability which needed to be corrected with this extension.

So adding another $700K on top of that just reduces what could be done with that money in the future. Not to mention that same uneasiness about what will happen at "put up or shut up" time. And as noted above, until we better recover from years of poor revenue in the AD, figures like that will matter.

I'll say though, things have seemed to change a good amount over the past 8 months or so as the ramp-up to the B1G entrance has come, so I do have a bit more confidence than I previously did.

Because this is Rutgers and there is the fear from the fan base that they don't want to spend money on athletics. Rutgers had to buy out 4 basketball coaches during the last 13 years and has continued a death spiral of paying coaches near the bottom of the power conferences. I'm not even sure that Eddie Jordan isn't the lowest paid coach in the Big Ten.

I guess there is also the fear that if Rutgers looks non competitive the rest of the season, that they won't be willing to make a change

I'd love to take you up on this offer but don't want to leave you hanging with the tickets if I end up not being able to go. The wife is pregnant and for the most part is doing great but if she wakes up Saturday morning having one of those days I don't think I will push driving down to Columbia for an 11 AM game and leaving her with our 2 year old son.

Over at Hawkeyenation tonight and picked up a couple good ones.

This picture was taken in 1978. it was the 1st Iowa/ISU game in 34 years. Our Coach, Bob Commings, stated during the week leading up to it that he's rather be playing Utah. ISU coach Earl Bruce had these jerseys made for the game. Iowa won 12-10.

And this Marshall Yanda hit. Its a beauty.

Huskies game is on FOX at 4:00 directly following a Yankees game. What are the odds that game ends on time. Still, cool to be on network tv for the game.

It seemed like before if 'Bama got away from it and were struggling they would flip the running game switch and pull off a impressive running game heavy drive for a TD. Sometimes they would only run during it. I honestly kind of miss that.

VT must have partied too hard after the OSU win. Them losing to ECU like this won't help the Big Ten's image either.

GT 35- Ga Southern 10, late first half.

I think I'm as shocked by this score as I've been by any in a while. I really truly believed Southern would win this one, and would probably control the game from start to finish.
