Reinstalling Windows & FOF7
Just went through this process with Windows 7 and I thought I'd share an interesting thing I learned. In case anyone else goes through and has these troubles.
I installed Windows on a fresh new hard drive, and FOF7, and copied my old OSFL2007 and CFLFILES folders I had backed up into the leagues folder. Everything worked except the exports couldn't get saved to the local directory (they uploaded fine), and imports wouldn't download. After a lot of hand-wringing and trying the usual (administrator, take ownership, uac, etc), I found out the issue resulted from FOF7 not having created those two folders. So, I had to remove those folders and "Enter New MP Career" for both leagues so that the game would create these folders themselves. Then I placed all the backed up files into the folders, and voila. |

Those "new" folders have the same name and permissions than the ones you had previously copied from your backup ?

This is consistent with previous versions, fwiw. IIRC, the Solecismic web site's old FAQ said that when moving a savegame to another computer that you need to copy the files into the folders created by FOF, not copy the folders themselves.

Ah, thanks Ben. I didn't know that and I was pulling my hair out for a while. The way I found out, actually, was I tried making a new SP game and saving it, and went, "Huh, well, that wrote to the folder correctly..."
Alf, I'm really not sure. As far as I can tell, I had every permission and ownership conceivable on the old folders. It's just that unless the game makes the folder, it doesn't work. |
