The other team probably wants an immediate impact on the team. I assume the player you're trading for is a stud or has the potential to be one. Besides your first round draft pick, the rest of the picks are very low value.

Yup, youre not offering nearly enough. To get the 1.1 you'd probably have to use 2-3 1st round picks.

There's no chance of making that trade even with 3#1's and 2 #2s. You might get up to 15 with what you're offering

The first one....try using google to find a draft pick value chart. Your offer for the top pick in the draft is roughly 1/3 of the value of the top pick. If you are going to actually score that pick I would suspect you would probably need to do a little better than 1/1, 1/3 the value isn't going to cut it.
On the second trade, hard to tell. But I would guess he is a super stud and Detroit has very little reason to move him. Toss more picks at them and maybe....but keep in mind that some of those picks you are throwing in there have very little trade value.

So in my positon its impossible for me to get 1.1 this year? I googled the draft pick value chart but it doesnt cover next years value.
Does my next year 1rnd pick weight more than any of my picks this year? I just need 1.1 this year. |

In the past I have been able to trade 3 #1's and two #2's for the overall number one pick. Sometimes teams won't do it though. In that case you can try trading some picks or a player to procure another number one from a different teamin order to trade 4 #1's and a #2 to get the overall #1 pick.

I would try to see if you could trade 1.30 and some stud young players and try to get into the top 15 at least, and then offer that with 2 future #1s and maybe you'll get 1.1. It's not going to be easy to get though.

The AI has enough going against it without being allowed to get fleeced by human owners in trades

garion, you have to take in to account how late in the round those picks are coming.
30th overall pick then add the best player in the draft, and the next two year's first round picks project out at the tail end of the round. Getting the first overall pick while giving up 3 late first round picks and 2 late second round picks might not be "fleecing" the AI, but it is definitely getting the better end of the deal. Put it this way, if you had the first overall pick, would you be happy with that return in any trade offer? |

Usually AI accepts trades of picks when are on the same value following the Pick Value Chart... Try with that table, is what I use in SP

Obviously everything is contextual. If he was terrible the prior two seasons then we could expect that the picks may be higher than 1.30. The AI, as far as I know, doesn't take that into account. Jim probably has it doing straight up trade values from the chart Shark linked. Mostly I just wanted to disagree with Aston. It's not fleecing the AI, maybe combing it gently while whispering sweet nothings in its ear. |

That's a good small question thread question - how does the AI value future draft picks? I've always assumed that they'd be valued as falling in the middle of the round, but it seems as though the AI might value future first round picks a little more than that, in relation to the draft value chart.

It's possible Jim put the top draft picks almost of our reach for most people in order to keep us from fleecing the AI in every draft.
The 1st pick in the draft is undervalued in the Jimmy Johnson draft chart for FOF2k7's purposes. Nowadays, however, I think the 1.1 spot isn't anywhere near the gimmee it was. I've had the studliest of studs turn into duds, which very nearly never happened in 2k7. There is definitely an interesting discussion to be had. I made a post at OSFL a couple years ago detailing different draft trade value charts. Can't find that post, but I did find this article again: How to Value NFL Draft Picks | The Harvard Sports Analysis Collective |

I haven't looked much in this version, but in past versions of the game, but at least leading into the draft and during the draft the AI viewed future picks as roughly the same point value of the team's natural draft slot in that year (so if a team was in the 21st draft slot the AI would value that team's picks in each of the next 2 seasons as roughly the same point value as the 21st draft slot this year). I think the AI slightly devalued future draft picks for the human teams while maintaining the same value for the computer run teams. |

If I got that first offer in an MP league, I'd respond with a terse no, then tell some of the other GMs in the league the offer so we can all laugh uproariously at your blatant trade rape attempt.
Like others have indicated, it's being unaware of the valuation of picks, particularly just how wide the gap is between the first and last pick in the first round, and how little value later round picks carry in a pure picks swap. This does lead me to my own secondary question, though. Does the AI factor in draft class strength, or is it purely slot value? My guess is slot value only, but thought I'd toss it out there.
