V2 - The vNFL Starting w/New Rosters, New Owners
(Obviously not written by me, I don't refer to myself in the third person, heh).
New League forming with real 2015 rosters - Gms wanted. We are forming a new league. An opportunity to get in from the beginning and be part of a league from the beginning. As with any new league, we are looking for a whole bunch of active players who want to play in our league for the long haul. Beginners and FOF veterans welcome! We have the infrastructure in place. All is taken care of on the IT side of things. Who are we? Back in 2007 the vNFL opened its doors. It became probably the busiest and most active league in FOF. We got to the stage that we had to form a “House” league as there were so many players who wished to play in our main vNFL league. Both the “main” league and the “house” league were full. We even got to the stage where we had a waiting list for the house league. The league revolved around Bear, who was our emotional and physical leader. Unfortunately his health problems led to the deterioration of the league. The league has been running over the past 7 years, but the last 2 have been far more low key. Now we are restarting the league, from scratch. We are going to bring the vNFL back to where it was. We have a new commissioner running the sims, Frankie Starz. The main stays of the league are back and at the forefront though. Bear and Nick are taking the roles of AFC and NFC presidents. League format 2 sims per week - We are in no hurry. We find that running at a relatively slower pace gives players a chance to write articles and digest the action that has taken place. Discuss it. We are big on participation. Injury setting 100 - We balance real life with the fact this is a game. We are turning the injuries off for pre season. This is about fun, injuries spoil the fun. Still we need some realism so we are somewhere in the middle. Combine setting 100 - We believe draft analyzer is taking the draft in the wrong direction. It is such an amazing piece of work that has become too powerful. Many players wish to play the game as it was intended. They are now putting themselves at a big disadvantage by doing so. We also simply feel it is more fun to play the game as it was intended rather than having a utility tell you what to do. This setting means that while you may use draft analyzer if you wish, it won’t give you the advantage over other players that don’t wish to use it, that you are currently getting in other leagues. We will be providing a draft guide for new players to try to share our experience and level the playing field. You want a piece of the action come and post on our waiting list. First come first served. To register for a forum account email [email protected] The vNFL Community Forum

Wasn't my call - I'm not running the show and am still a bit unfamiliar with the game settings. Could you explain the logic versus the logic that chose 100> The logic that chose 100 was to make combines very accurate and post a list of what all the combines mean so far as ratings go so as to level the playing field for people using analyzer and those just scouting by using the combines.. I would love to hear a different viewpoint Ben. Cheers, -Bear

But to be clear, I'm fairly certain that DA is looking at bars more than combines, so the accurate bars at 100 combined with combines that are much more tightly restricted would make it even more accurate. An argument could be made that a league where everyone knows how draftees are going to turn out is more equal, but I'm not so sure about the fun factor of something like that. (There are 50ish starting quality players per draft class. I would expect all of them to go in the first two rounds in a setup like that.)

Interesting, thanks. I'll have Frank and Nick take a look at it. Appreciate the input.
Thanks!

I was under the impression 100 stood for maximum combine accuracy. Thus players can draft off of combines with confidence.
The feedback I am getting is the DA is picking out guys with static bars which out perform their combines. Unmasking them as a guy with a false combine. As in he is a better player. Very tiresome to trawl static bars as a manual drafter. Correct me if I am wrong as I don't use it. You lower the combine setting this becomes even more of an issue. Rob just claimed the Panthers Bear. |

But the bottom line is that increasing the setting to 100 would end up making the draft very, very predictable--and not just based on combines. You'd just draft the guys with the best bars. (I suspect that it might also render the differences between good and bad scouting pretty useless, too, but I don't know that for sure.)

Will it start with default players and a draft, or default rosters? (In other words, would we have the chance to influence our original rosters?)

There was a little support for a draft but it looks like it's going to be default rosters. Sorry man. After lengthy discussion we ended up at 75. We do feel our initial reasoning holds. However we also took on board your point about predictability. We saw a positive side of it, in that it should help parity. What you see is what you get. The better players should go to the weaker teams and the top GMs should theoretically should struggle to dominate from the back end of the rounds. Ultimately though, we went for just a little bit of uncertainty to spice things up. But just a touch. We filled another 7 or 8 teams today. Expecting to be full very shortly. |

A couple of notes based on the desires of those who have signed up.
We're going with a custom roster based off 7.1c but with 2015 off season changes made, ratings updated and the 2015 draft class added to the teams that selected them. Combine /Ratings Correlation will be 75 instead of 100. Just two teams left. Email [email protected] to register for the forum. Email [email protected] if you just need a password reset. Then visit http://www.bearsruletheworld.com/vnf...post#post95268 and claim one of the final two teams.

Ravens have come up due to unforeseen personal circumstances. Pretty competitive team.
This league is tough to keep up with, only 2 games a week but 50 posts plus a day on the forum is pretty common. We are a very active league, so we need someone who has the time to keep up. The first ball in pre season gets snapped tonight. So your still getting in at the start of it all. Be quick, and failing that sign up on the waiting list. |

We still have an opening! The team is Houston and the draft is in the 2nd round. They're a pretty solid roster having just missed out on a playoff spot last year. We're moving into the 2016 season. We have a great group of GMs with a lot of activity on the forums.
Stop over and check it out. http://thevnfl.boards.net/ Last edited by ezlee2 : 08-30-2015 at 12:36 PM. |
