just a thought

What about a small bonus for players playing on the last year of their contract. Like a micro bonus, to encourage letting some guys play out contracts and signing for guys on the last year for their contracts. Add a little strategy to using your aging vets well.

A monetary bonus?

Or are you talking about them being in contract years where they play harder/better?

Play a little better, like any real player would. Even on a year they plan to retire most guys give it a little extra that last year. Might add a little more depth.

I imagine that compensatory picks could be a pain to code since one never knows how many extra picks you would have per year in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th rounds.

Something in principle a lot simpler to include that would be great to have in the game would be 5th-year options for 1st round picks. this changes a lot the dynamics of trading in and out of the 1st round.
