Setting up FTP Server for MP league?

We're currently in our 47th season of a multiplayer league that has been emailing files back and forth since FOF4. Recently our league has been having a lot of problems. Solecismic has basically informed us that they can't provide troubleshooting unless our league uses the FTP system.

Does anybody have any suggestions or links as to the easiest way to do this? We have tried a couple methods and failed. I'm not even sure if I'm working from the right starting point, trying to use Filezilla or something? This is all Greek to me / everyone in our league.
