gameplanning with this QB

I've got mid level quarterback that I've had a good amount of success with. However, he has started to throw a lot of interceptions the past couple years and I'm not sure what I can do to make things better. The supporting cast has always had good route-running skills, the cohesion has been over 90 for all but one year (it was 82). For some reason I can't attach screen caps, but here's how he looks:

Since his overall rating is so low compared to the average of his other ratings, he probably has a low avoid interceptions rating...

Not sure if it helps, but the common logic is to throw fewer long passes and run the ball more.

...problem is, with a throw-it-short gameplan to minimize interceptions, you'll be relying heavily on two of his skills that aren't that strong: short passes 50, accuracy 16. I think you likely just work with an assumption that he's pick prone, and weigh his value to your team with that in mind - maybe he's not the build-around player for you that you have been considering him to be.

i agree with FOM and quik -- the guy seems to have a low avoid interception so he's prone to throwing picks.


if you had success with him in the past, i'd guess you probably had an elite OL and WRs/TEs, and run the ball a decent amount so the guy wouldn't throw too much in obvious passing situations. if you still have the same support personnel and the guy is not playing that well, than probably your OC changed and maybe the offensive style/playbook/gameplan as well.



he's usable as qb as long as you ask him to manage the game and don't have to play from behind too much. there's different ways to accomplish this, e.g. with efficient running at the 40-50% level on 1st down and having a good defense.

Thanks guys. Good advice. I had tried the short passing and run more theory as the season wore on but that worked out like you guys anticipated. He still threw a lot of picks. However, I did win the bowl despite him throwing 27.



The OL and receiving options are elite, so that definitely helps. Same OC for his whole career though. I'll deal with the interceptions until I find an upgrade or I stop winning. Thanks again!

He looks like a play action long pass kinda guy at this point in his career. Long passes are more INT prone, do msybe move on from the guy.
