Is anyone working on decoding the .dat files?

I have been using gstelmack's awesome work on for Eight, and writing some of my own utilities, but Eight had a lot of data in .csv files which is now in .dat files, and I'm assuming that even the previous .dat files are not identical in structure in the new version. So before I start to work on pulling them apart (slowly, in my "spare" time), I wonder if anyone else is planning to do the same thing (so we can share knowledge)?

If I knew how to do it, I certainly would help. It seems fairly obvious that extracting from those is gonna be the holy grail of data for this version. I can offer to you what I did for Greg: years ago I did software QA for a livin', and I'd like to think I can still do a decent job. Any testing of utilities or data verification you need, I'm on it.

When I get far enough, I will definitely take you up on that!

I've looked at it a little bit. I've decoded some of it, there is some information in there, but I'm not anywhere close enough to have anything useful.

i think there's something I'm missing in the decoding process

Update: I've decoded enough of the leage.dat file to find the basic team information, and I've got the structure of the weekly game files roughed out. I still have a bit more work to go before I'm back to the level of info we had for the FOF8 files (thanks to gstelmack), but I do hope to have something I can share at some point.

I'm also going to experiment with absolutely use at your own risk tools to allow you change team names, etc, at some point, assuming there is interest, and Jim doesn't add similar functionality to the game before I get there.

Is there any chance of ever making a ratings editor?

Not sure, at this point. You mean when you have a league running, and you want to change someone's Endurance, or something?

I have not yet looked at the Person data (although I will have to at some point). In the past I have only wanted names and positions, but I'll see what else is easily visible when I get there.

Yes. Thanks! That would be great!
