Levant's Prospect Name Variety Mod
I'm in the process of porting over a copy of the Complete World Names Database 2.0 mod by Dogzilla made for OOTP.
I will not incorporate most of the name sets in that database other than nations and ethnicities that have any (even if it's very small) presence in Gridiron Football as that mod was made originally for the world of Baseball. I would however welcome suggestions for a small portion of name sets from the mod in question to be incorporated into the first_names_3 file as I recall that being where 0.2% of the names chosen to come from, mostly being reserved for Nicknames and therefore I can use that to reserve more uncommon names. It will take me an undisclosed amount of time to test and port over names. I think the only way to control assignment is in the amount of weight you give frequency so as I work on this please be mindful that the first few versions of this mod might only add more variety rather than realism until I put time into researching the proper weighing of frequency. I might use the same weighing system the original mod has used in OOTP as a baseline but since this game goes on a per-name basis this might be harder to ascertain. I assure you I will be aware of this and thus why I am not offering an ETA on completion. I am making a thread mostly not to derail any other conversations as I currently am working on the mod and is intended to currently be more of a statement of intent. At the very least as at the time I am making this thread, I'm currently working on it and will edit this post with the files once I feel it's all in working order and won't mess with or corrupt your drafts. I've decided to be transparent on which sets I'm pulling from the mod I'm getting this from and where so everyone can see what I am adding, some of these (such as the Haitian nameset) are because there are players in the league of parents from the country and while the country itself doesn't play our brand of football, people of the heritage have. I've looked through a few of the American-centric sets and I have considered this to provide enough variety given that the vast majority of football players are North American (11/13/2023) Lastly the source of the original mod for OOTP: Complete World Names Database 2.0 - OOTP Developments Forums (Sets to be Ported) 0 American (Caucasian) (Completed 11/13/2023) 30 Polynesian (Completed 11/14/2023) 38 African-American (Completed 11/14/2023) 46 English-Caribbean (Completed 11/15/2023) 47 Southeast-Asian-American (Completed 11/15/2023) 54 Hispanic-American (Completed 11/14/2023) 60 East-Asian-American (Completed 11/15/2023) 67 Native-American(Completed 11/15/2023) 72 Quebecois (Completed 11/15/2023) 91 English-Pacific (Completed 11/15/2023) 192 Anglo-Irish (Completed 11/15/2023) 199 Barbadan (Completed 11/15/2023) 203 Trinidadian (Completed 11/15/2023) 205 Jamaican (Completed 11/15/2023) 214 Bahaman (Completed 11/15/2023) 221 Haitian (Completed 11/15/2023) 222 Canadian (Completed 11/15/2023) In Consideration: 105 Samoan (Within November) 106 Tongan (Within November) 180 Puerto-Rican 185 Australian 186 Mexican 187 Cuban 189 East-Asian-Hispanic 190 Maori (Within November) 200 Carib-Indian (No present ETA) 201 Carib-Muslim (No present ETA) 202 Carib-Asian (No present ETA) [Sets that will be added but will have to play with to weigh less] 7 German 8 French 9 Italian 16 Scottish 20 English 70 Spanish (includes Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, etc) 71 Dominican 75 Argentine-Italian 80 Brazilian 85 Welsh 180 Puerto-Rican 182 Austrian 185 Australian 186 Mexican 187 Cuban 189 East-Asian-Hispanic 198 British Virgin Islands 204 Guyanese 206 Grenadan 207 St.Vincentian 208 St.Lucian 209 Dominica(n) 210 Antiguan 211 Anguillan 212 Montserrat 213 St.Kitts & Nevis 214 Bahaman 215 Cayman Islands 216 Turks & Caicos 217 Bermudan All last names from the sets I'm planning to port will go into the last names csv most likely weighed the same as in the XML or some currently undetermined degree of magnitude less (probably 30%-60% less the more uncommon the nationality but I will take into consideration the number of times it appears throughout the various sets to better determine frequency.) Once a week I'll update the OP with my progress on the project, usually Monday evening much like today. A general set for US and Canada is expected to be in this second post (and the OP) barring anything happening to me or my loved ones within the week (or next) once I'm able to test it. The complete set is not expected to be completed any time soon, but a general North American/Pacific and Carribean set should be enough for the vast majority of people to be happy if the set doesn't produce outlandish results on my end.

A much needed and useful mod. Wish I had the brains to do one or help. Will make games more immersive for sure.

Results seem pretty all right so far. Might port more sets before release, that remains to be seen.
![]() ![]() ![]() There are still going to be rather questionable outputs but without the ethnicity values that exist in OOTP, it's hard to assign Hispanic names to go only to Hispanics etc, just doesn't seem to exist right now so please understand that some of the same assignment issues are going to exist. You will at least get a greater variety in my attempt to make up for it. If people are okay with what I have presented while I might continue to port more sets throughout the week, I can also update the OP with...what I'll say is a beta version for now if people are interested in that for now. I might also have to bump up the frequency of more common last names or simply port back their frequencies from the base file and see what that does but we're getting there Last edited by Levant2494 : 11-15-2023 at 03:29 PM.
