Owner limiting contract size

About 6 seasons into a sim, cant resign my QB because the later season salaries are over an arbitrary limit that the owner has placed. The pop up window is titled "Owner Rejects Contract" and reads "Your owner has set a limit of $51,630,000 for an individual salary in any one season." This seems really short sighted because an elite QB is always going to be asking for that kind of money when the cap is 265million. So now I can't sign my star QB even though I have the cap space... am I screwed?

The CAP may be $256M but what do you have remaining with all of the other positions on contract?

I'd still have 16million left over after signing the QB, so its not a cap problem. If I had to guess maybe the "owner" limits max salary based on the teams revenue...

edit/update: I was able to sign the QB by changing every year of the contract to exactly the limit proposed by the owner. So im paying my QB exactly 51,630,000 a year for 4 years, which doesnt seem realistic either, because players usually request increasing salary... not sure this feature is working as intended
