Starting a new (solo) league...allocation draft or not?

I always took the team as it was, typically an average/above average team, but never won a SB. This time I'm going to try it with the allocation draft...I'm almost done and my roster is WAY better than even a playoff-caliber team (but not the best one) I inherited the other way.

Curious how people have done either way, esp if anyone inherited a .500ish or less team and turned it around for a SB win?
