CAP and Contracts

I am working a handful of different league formats and I have tried to structure the CAP at times to make it hard for the AI, and myself, to manage. I have had some interesting observations and curious as to what others have done and seen.

I usually try formats ranging from 28 to 40 teams. Don't know what happens with smaller formats.

- If I set the starting CAP between 2800 and 3000 every franchise pretty much falls within the CAP limit after the draft.
- I tried a CAP setting at 2000 and every team ended up well over the CAP. An interesting thing I found was that they were not only over the CAP but a handful had less then 53 on the roster. One team was running with 37. In addition every team ended up losing thier 3rd round picks the first season due to the CAP overage.
- After the first season of the above teams would adjust their rosters but incur some hefty dead money totals. All of this really plays havoc on any immersion.
- I have a 40 team league right now I was looking at renegotiating contracts and looked at the games feedback for my starting QB. My CAP is set at 2950 and the QB wants a $54M bonus and an "average" of over $100M a year for 4 years. This years team CAP is $301M. I am like WTF!

I had not adjusted the minimums by experience much. I have in the past and didn't notice much difference if I lowered it. Going to try some more though.

What I have been trying to do, I thought, was to create a burden and therefore a challenge by manipulating this but haven't seen that result. Anyway, anyone else try anything similar?

I think somewhere in the documentation it says that it's highly recommended to keep all those min salaries the same proportion to the cap number. Maybe your teams are getting into roster trouble because you need to lower those salaries too.

I left them all the same for the last few leagues. The one I reference with the golden QB is with the default settings and a higher CAP.
