Besides a few I'll bet you a dollar if my team wins bets I have never actually gambled on sporting events (though it is something I find very interesting). That said I have stumbled upon an offer I can't refuse. Mansion's sportsbook is offering a free $1100 bet on the steelers dolphins game. That's right, you bet $1100 on the steelers to cover the 4.5 point spread and if they don't Mansions will refund the $1100. This has been listed at several other places on the web and here is there email below.
Simply visit the MANSION Sportsbook and place a minimum Point Spread (Handicap)
bet of USD 1,100 (or currency equivalent) to win USD 1,000 on the Pittsburgh Steelers
for their game on Thursday 7 Sept 2006. If your bet is not a winner, MANSION will
refund your losses of USD 1,100 (or currency equivalent) within 3 working days of the
result.
This deal is too good to miss. There’s no better way to kick off the NFL season and
no better place than at MANSION
Don’t miss out
The MANSION Team.
Here is a long thread on 2+2 about it:
hxxp://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=Sports&Number=7059817&page=0&fpart=1
A couple of quick notes this offer is for the sportsbook not the sports exchange. This offer is only for bets of $1100 so don't be betting $1001 or $110 or something like that. You will have to supply them with a scanned image of your driver's license to withdrawal. If you go ahead and place this bet please be very, very, careful when placing it to make sure you will get the refund.
Now the real degenerate gambling question. While winning $1000 is nice I am not sure my heart will be able to take having $1000 riding on a football game. I am considering hedging this bet through another sportsbook (hedging! I have never even placed a sports bet and now I am talking about hedging! Man I am I degenerate gambler.). Others on 2+2 have hedged and it looks like they are getting roughly $450 EV with the hedge. This is giving up $50 of EV but $450 is $450. Personally, I think my bankroll is big enough to not hedge but again I don't think I have the heart to not hedge. This is similar to the bubble scenarios that Quiksand and Primelord threw out when taking about the WSoP. Either take the guaranteed money or the extra variance for the higher reward.
Anyway, I thought I would throw this out there since I know that there are several sports bettors on the site.

There is no reason to believe this isn't on the up and up. They have offered bets like this in the past. The obvious goal here is win or lose you are going to keep that money at the site and keep wagering it.

I'm considering it, and have talked to a couple of local bookies who are already feeling the hedge action, they say.

They just did a similar promotion on Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premie League (a team they sponsor), and they were legit in repaying the lost bet. (F'ing Spurs).

Just make sure you hedge your bet, because Miami is going to crush Pittsburgh.

Well this makes me feel a little less degenerate. Appartently pinnacle is also getting hammered with hedges.
Despite todd's comments I kind of like the steelers in this game. That said I know that that is where the square money is going and someone like me is supposed to like the steelers here. So I'm hedging but I am still looking around for the best hedge deal.

I could only basically scrape together the $1100, so I'm not hedging out of necessity. Go Steelers!

There can be no doubt about that fact. But I can't decide if I want to essentially bet $500 on Pittsburgh or just take $500ish and walk away.

I have no other sports betting accounts open and have a smaller bankroll than I used to due to poker burnout at the beginning of the year, so I am likely not hedging out of necessity as well.
I've never placed a sports bet at one of these types of sites before, but obviously this is something worth considering. Kind of a stupid question, but is there anything important I should know before getting into this or a good site with tips on the process (not on choosing someone to bet on), or is it just very straight-forward?

They just ran a similar promotion 2 weeks ago for the start of the English Premier League. The bet was on Tottenham, for 100 GBP (and equivelant). Totennham lost, my money was refunded within 3 days. They are a MAJOR betting site, so there is no reason to not trust this. My bet is already in.

Not if you do an EFT, but that does take 4-5 business days which could maybe push it a bit considering the game is Thursday and labor day may foul things up from a business day perspective. The money might not be there in time to place the bet.
They also have an instacash feature where they charge a % on top of the funds deposited, but im not sure how high your limit would be right off the bat. There are some other options out there like a bank wire, etc... but im no expert in those.

KevinNU7

One of my friends asked this...
I dont know what to say. This sounds way too good to be true. I
mean, is there some sort of thing whether, win or lose the bet, you
have to keep some sort of balance in your account or make a certain
number of minimum bets over the next period of time.
---
In summary, if I win can I transfer out the $2,100 the next day? Or if I lose can I transfer out the $1,100 the next day?

Reviewing the site I see that you can give them your CC info directly and skip the Netteller process? What are the negatives behind that?

CC probably won't work, since there was apparently a high chargeback rate at online casino's in the past.

Yes, they also said there is a $$ limit for the first 90 days.

And just to quell any conspiracy theories, this was stated in advance on the offer page and is because of the preseason action.

Well, my bet is in at Mansion, and I've got the bankroll to hedge the bet. I'm not sure which way I'm going with it at this point. I'd like to hedge, but I don't feel like signing up at another site, and im not sure i'm willing to buy points (therefore reducing my guaranteed money). Seems like lines had already moved from Miami +5 to +4 by the time I had a chance to place a bet on Miami. (I'm locked in in on Pit -4.5)
So if I can hedge without having to buy at either of the two other sports books im already a member o, I will, unless something happens in the next few days that makes me crazy confident Pitt will win this thing easily.
Either i'll be able to lock up some free money, or this will be the most riveting sporting event i've ever watched.

Should be a statement from Cowher today after practice(anytime now).

No. Help.Found it here:
hxxp://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=0&Number=7220607&page=
Cliffs Notes Version:
(1)For those who made the Mansion $1100 bet, in addition to your winnings you should now have $1100 in bonus money.
(2)That bounus requires $22,000 of equivalnet wagering in order to get paid to you.
(3)Poker and BJ have very poor wagering ratios (10% on BJ for example means you need to wager $220,000 to get paid your bonus)
(4)Keno however has a 100% ratio, so you only need to wager $22,000 on Keno.
(5)The best odds in your favor is a (minimum) $0.10 wager on 3 numbers (7% house edge). This allows you to place a $10 side bet on even/odds which only has a 2.5% house edge.
(6)You need to make this wager 2179 times for an +EV of $540.08
P.S. If anyone would like to split thier bonus with me, I'll be happy to hit the Keno tables for you. :)

No they pulled the Keno off the site. Some seriously stupid guy went and told CS about it in live chat and then posted on 2+2 about it.I would say that effectively ends the lure of Mansion's bonus. The EV has got to be so incredibly low that it doesn't make sense trying to recover it:
<table border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="450"><tbody><tr><td>Wagering Requirement
</td></tr> <tr> <td width="100%"> (Deposit Amount plus Bonus) x 10
</td></tr></tbody></table>
<table border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr nowrap="nowrap"> <td valign="top" width="131"> Game
</td> <td valign="top" width="306"> Percentage Contribution to Wagering Requirement
</td></tr> <tr nowrap="nowrap"> <td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top"> All Slots
</td> <td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top"> 100%
</td></tr> <tr nowrap="nowrap"> <td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top"> Keno
</td> <td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top"> 100%
</td></tr> <tr> <td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top">Video Poker
</td> <td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top"> 25%
</td></tr> <tr> <td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top"> Baccarat
</td> <td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top"> 25%
</td></tr> <tr> <td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top">Roulette
</td> <td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top"> 25%
</td> </tr> <tr> <td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top">Blackjack
</td> <td align="center" nowrap="nowrap" valign="top"> 10%
</td> </tr> <tr> <td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top">Remaining table games
</td> <td align="center" nowrap="nowrap" valign="top"> 50%
</td></tr></tbody></table>
Which means you need to wager $22,000 to claim your $1,000 bonus - not counting Keno any more. Care to play $220,000 worth of blackjack to get back $1,000? How about $88,000 of roulette?
Sayonara, bonus...
