So did you Mr. Gigure.

Amazing that the swamps have produced some prolific teams in both NFL, NBA, NHL...thank god they don't have a baseball team...

As much as I hate the Devils and the way their fans are, I'll say...
Congrats on a hard-fought, fair-and-square victory.

I'm proud to be a Devils fan tonight, but I'm pretty upset about the fans who booed when Giguere was given the Conn Smythe. That was really terrible. I'm glad I'm not like those fans.

What was the score? Went to HT Buffet and didn't catch the game. Bummer that the Ducks lost though, because I really thought it'd be sweet to see a team associated with underachievers win a title.
As for Giguere, that guy has been amazing in the playoffs, absolutely amazing.
I'm just hoping the Sharks can get back to where they were supposed to be this year. If you remember, the Sharks were the early favorites to compete for the Cup. Than it all fell apart.
Unlike the other major sports, I've never fully been able to get into hockey yet.

Thanks, Pumpy. You are a credit to the silent majority of New Jersey fans who aren't one of the jerks who was booing Jiggy tonight. This championship isn't for guys like that, it's for true hockey fans like you.
Congratulations on a hard-fought and well-won Cup. Now quit it and let someone else win it. :)

Not that this has anything to do with me ( The tiny part of me that's misguided enough to be a hockey fan is so misguided that I follow the Blueshirts )... But here's Jody Mac and Sid's take on the Giguire Conn Smythe and the subsequent booing:
What did you expect? (http://wfan.com/homepage/)
Click on: June 10th -- Mac and Sid's Open. At first, I thought the booing was classless also.

That's what I've been saying all along! :D
I mean, we on this forum may not have booed, but come on... what do you expect when you give an opposition player a trophy right after the home team has won the Stanley Cup?! I've said that any team's fans would have done the same.

Pretty much true. I always enjoy the rare moments in sports where some gutsy performance, or more likely legendary career performance, earn a player recognition by an opposing crowd. I mean, if Emmitt Smith had broken the rushing record anywhere (except Philly), I think he would have gotten a standing ovation. I guess with MVP type stuff though, if it isn't a home guy, it stinks.

Just because you think everyone else would do it doesn't make it right. It was classless. Just accept it.

I don't think it was classless. Unless you think booing an opposing player when he hits a HR against your team is classless. Especially when you look at Brodeur's individual awards over the years (0, if you are keeping count) and how fans may feel that he's been disrespected time and time again.

Of course you don't think it was classless. It was done by New Jersey fans.

Dense? How am I being dense? You have a pattern of extremely pro-Jersey biased statements? Why is it so hard for you to see that everything you say about anything New Jersey-related can't be trusted?
And I don't believe you would if the situation was reversed.

Fine don't believe me. You are obviously being dense. I have a history of pro-Jersey statements, so that means I wouldn't have backed if the situation if it was the opposite way around . I'm glad to see you've proved that statement :p.
But go ahead, be 'shocked' that fans of a team that just won a championship booed when a player of the opposing team won the MVP of the playoffs award... that's soooo shocking! OMG, because we are so much better and more civilized that those fans.
Sure.
Btw: Scott Stevens SURE hurt his team by getting the Ducks more fired up for Game 7. Obviously you have a pro-Anaheim bias due to the fact you were so pitifully wrong (I'm sure you wouldn't have made that statement if Salei did it). I guess I shouldn't believe anything you say on the topic either. That has as much 'proof' as your post does.

Okay, logic 101.
Issisiqui shows through repeated statements that he is extrememly biased toward New Jersey. He defends its players and its fans to no end. He even goes so far as to say that hurting opponents is an acceptable goal to aspire to in order to inspire New Jersey teams to play harder.
Jersey fans boo Guigere when he gets the award, and many here view this as a classless move.
Despite this, you still defend them.
Conclusion--you are willing to ignore even your most basic tenets of right and wrong in order to justify anything and everything that New Jersey teams and/or fans do.
My conclusion from that-- nothing you say about New Jersey can be trusted.
How am I being dense again? This makes sense.

The Devils applauded, frankly, that's all that mattered.
Based on last night, I'd say Brodeur. The award, however, is for the whole playoffs, Jiggy deserves some part of that.

I don't like dirty play, period. I don't like headhunters. If I see Salei making a dirty hit or trying to hurt a player, I would boo him, too.

Yes, you are being totally dense. Show to me where I would not defend the actions of another team or fans of that team were the situations and actions EXACTLY the same! Go ahead. I don't cry foul when a Devils' player is knocked out by an opposing player... it's part of the game, that's what happens! I don't get all whiney when a Devils' player gets booed... that happens in the game too.
You reverse the situations and I'm not calling for blood. That's how the game and fans work. Sorry if I understand that, while you don't.

How was Stevens' hit a dirty play? It was totally legal. What, was it because he was trying to hit him hard, to maybe knock him down, if not out? If Salei did this and succeeded and quieted down the opposition, I'd call it a damned fine hit. Hell, If I've said it for Rangers like Samuelsson (who I hate), I can sure as Hell say it for Ducks.
BTW, why are you caloing me dense and pitiful?

I understand bias just fine. Please stop treating me like a 5-year-old. Why are you being like this? Doesn't this kind of reaction exactly show the bias I am talking about?
You're all riled up. Calling me names. You make no logical argument for your point, even when I make one for mine.
You insist on using irrelevancies, like how other fans would react. That doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is this specific instance. What the fans did was classless. Booing a player for a hard and well-earned award is classless, no matter who does it.
And my point about you personally also still stands. You have consistently shown that anything New Jersey does can do no wrong. So I am perfectly within my rights to say that you have no believability whatsoever on any issue relating to New Jersey sports.

If you believe a hit that intends to hurt a player--to put him out of action completely--is acceptable, than quite frankly I am sickened by you. You're pathetic to root for the pain of others.
You do know there is a difference between legal and dirty, right? Legal is based ont he NHL's rules. Is dirty is based on a more societal standard, which tries to limit harm done between individuals. Stevens goes out of his way to hurt people, and I think that's dirty.

HA! If you called that riled up, you have a piss poor hold on definitions. You haven't seen me riled up.
What the fans did was classless. Booing a player for a hard and well-earned award is classless, no matter who does it.
No it isn't! Why is it classless? Because it is hard and well-earned? So, what if you think someone else deserves it? You sit on your hands and just say yeah, I don't think he deserved it, but 'yeah'? Bullshit!
You have consistently shown that anything New Jersey does can do no wrong.
Because THREE stances made in a few days means consistently . Really, where is the proof? Since when does three stances in 2 or 3 days really falls under 'consistent'. Are you on crack, or are you just so desperate to be right here that you'll say anything?
Of course all those times I critisized Derrick Coleman for being a lout or when I was pissed at Scott Niedermeyer for trying to wack the Florida player on his head with his stick don't count. Of course not, they don't fit the time frame you've built. Three stances, 2-3 days... that's consistent.
Sure.

If they really weighted the finals aspect of things, then definitely. 3 shutout wins, and another game the Devils lost 1-0 in overtime, he had a pretty damn solid series. But he hadn't been nearly the factor 'Jiggy' was in the Ducks reachigng the finals.

Considering Salei's history, probably a poor player to choose.
I bet Mike Modano or Daniel Briere might want you to start the booing.

I wasn't going to step back into this thread, and with regards to the debate from a certain someone, I won't, but, yes, I figured it would be fair to respond to that, DD.
I never saw the slew-footing (sp?) that Salei did on Briere. I figure it was dirty (he got suspended for it), and, no, I didn't like it. It was a dirty play and it deprived us of a needed defenseman. And it was stupid, besides, because he did it in an exhibition game.
As for the Modano deal, while I don't like that it was a relatively open ice hit of questionable intent, the fact of the matter is that I don't believe Salei was trying to hurt Modano there, and I know he was trying to clear room in front of the crease. There was clear in-game reason for putting a hit on Modano there, and were it not for the way Modano went into teh boards, it wouldn't have been nearly as big a deal as it was.
Salei is not one of my favorite Ducks. But I like having him around for his defensive abilities, of which he does have a little.
I'm not against hitting. There is plenty of need for hitting in hockey, and I view it as a key element of the game. But I think some players take it too far. They don't hit for the game. They hit to hurt. They are true headhunters. And I think this great game can do well enough without the antics of such criminals.

Okay, we all know that some people hit to hurt (in hockey, football, or whatever). Now that that's been established, what the hell is all the arguing about? If you don't agree with somebody, that's fine. If you don't want to talk about it anymore, then DON'T TALK ABOUT IT. The verbal cheap shots are flying faster than anything that Scott Stevens, Ulf Samuelsson, or Bryan Marchment can lay out.
I mean, if people want to argue, that's fine. It's not my place to tell anyone not to. I just don't really see the point.
