What would you pay for a 30yr old Passable Middie?

He would be a great trainee.....if he was 12 or 13 years younger. Someone might take him just to have a team captain/good middie even with his age. Don't really know the rate for old guys so can't help you out.

I'm going to guess you could get between 20-30k for that kind of player depending on who would bid.

Like NAIWF said, 20-30 is a possibility. If you listed him at a time where he may end up in a bidding war, you might be able to get closer to the 50-range. The age in combination with the timing - staring at the end of the season and age turnover - really works against you, though.

For a team that doesn't already have a pretty good set of midfielders, he'd make one heck of an offensive midfielder.

I guess having said that, and I really appreciate the input. I had already listed him earlier today. I started him at $72000.


It was probably high, but I didn't mind keeping him for a while either. A team from Germany has already placed a bid on him! WhooHoo!

Now if I can only get a bidding war going.

These guys are under valuing your player Pilotman. I know the market for middy's pretty dam well, and its no surprise someone has already bid on him.

The market goes crazy for good middy's with passable or higher passing, reguardless of age. I'd say you could possibly get up to 100k for him.

The guy will only be at that level for another guaranteed 4 weeks before he turns 31. Paying upwards of $100,000 for a player whose talent could nosedive once next season starts isn't appealing to me, but I also try not to buy players who I'm sure will kill my TS even if they are cheap. I guess I play a bit more conservatively than some others on the board/in the game.

You'd be surprised how much money people will spend on some players.

The question is not always "would lytic (or anybody from FOFC) would pay that much for that kind of player", but more something like "would anybody (probably a newbie or somebody who needs that kind of player) would pay that much for that kind of player"...

My point is we got some pretty knowledgeable players around here, you included lytic, but there are tons more players out there in HT world and some of them are inclined to pay for that kind of player, as proven byt the few bids PM got on his players already...

There is a 40 000 US$ difference in bonus money between 1st place and 2nd place finish for D.IV. Ignoring gate receipt from my Qualification game.

There is a 10% supporter difference between finishing 6th and 7th place. Ignoring gate receipt from my Qualification game.

If I need an offensive midfielder and I can get my hand on one with solid stamina, passable playmaking with what would equate to near excellent passing with the offensive instruction, I wouldn't give second thoughts to paying 75 000 - 80 000 for one. Especially, say, if I play a formation like 4-5-1 that could use all the offensive help it can get.

As for his age, that seems to be damn near as overblown as the clown thing. I have a 30 year old who's already started his downhill curve and I have a 32 year old who hasn't lost a step yet. That means I should be able to get another season or two after this out of him. Heck, even accounting for him succumbing to Father Time.

Now, if I'm training playmaking, maybe a 30 year old isn't quite what I want in the middle. But if I'm not - say, I'm training goalkeeping or defending - or if the stretch run is important to my team, who gives a crap if I have a 52 year old like DataKing (:D) playing in midfield if he can do the job.

I had a similar player recently (see the thread I started, Woohoo!), at 29, he went for 100k plus change $US. I started him at 40k and expected 50k. So there's good hope ;)

Here are my thoughts, I have been in debt most of the time and have come to the conclusion that there is no way you can keep a competetive team if you are in debt. A couple of my trainiees are getting as good as him and he can't even get a training match, so I needed to let him go. If he can, he may pop to solid in about 6 or 7 weeks by my estimation. Anyway, I am suprised to see him this high already. And in the begining of what looks to be a good bidding war.

The other thing is, in my search to find players with similar qualifications as his, there really are none. So if someone is looking for an affordable piece to put them over the top the demand could be there.

As a team that trains middies, I really have no use for him. I have two strong middies that are my foundation and are 28 and 27. I figure that by the time they need to retire, I will have more powerful ones waiting to take over.

Something tells me though in all of this that the timing of this sale is a big reason for the sale price.

I wasn't trying to be an ass about it honestly... I was just saying in general I can't believe anyone would pay that much. Here is why: I bought a 32 year old Solid playmaker with Passable passing for like $50-60k or something like that (I'm at work, so I don't have the exact stats).
When I was poor and new I was looking to fill some of my holes, midfield being one of them. I knew that buying 30+ year olds were much cheaper. However, you eventually have to start molding your team for the future. Which means buying less than 25 year olds, if possible. My team is starting to "get young."

Like pilot said... it may have been the timing. I just let an excellent defender go for $510k, which is a good $100-150k less than the "norm." I guess my timing was off...
