View Full Version : Need Advice - Div V or Div VI

That's right boys and girls, Ultra Nox hit a wall at the end of the season dropped all 3 to the top teams of V.56 and got knocked to fifth place.
So 7/14 I play the Puerto Rico Kickers (bot team) to battle for my spot.
The Kickers play in the virgin VI.769 league, all bots. I now play in the lethal V.56 league with 3 or 4 teams quite powerful and probably two bot teams next season.
So I'm looking to the pros and cons of sticking it in this division, over going down one, taking the 10% loss (I have 775 members) and dominating, or should I fight tooth and nail to stick it out in v.56.
I feel I have a better chance at conquering VI, getting high scorer, qualification, first place and then the 10% bonus for next season PLUS excellent youth squad...
My team spirit is at murderous, so I do feel I may throw the match just to bump down...
By next season early, I have one solid PM, by midseason one excellent and several passable/solid mids...
It's a unique situation, I believe that even if I have other human competition that it may not be as rough and tumble as this division....
Please enlighten me...thanks.

Definetly tempting. The one thing I'd worry about is how your revenue stream will be in D.VI
Will you be able to sell enough seats to pay D.V guys at D.VI?
I've been selling out my 11,600 stadium in D.VI with a smaller fan club (if that info helps you at all).

Right now I only have a 7000 seater (never upgraded), I'm selling off 3 players now so I can break even for the year to go back to zero...I can either build a stadium at the season's beginning (knowing that at least for a while I'll be playing bot teams, I hope) and pay it off...OR...save up enough money so by the end of the season (and hopefully promoting back to V) I can buy a stadium outright with minimal debt.
It's a very tempting offer, just like in the movie Labrynth, "sometimes you gotta go backwards to get forwards."

well if you demoted your supporter would be at 700 which means you could sellout a 15,000 seat stadium pretty easily. Especially if you win a bunch of bot games in a row.

In your situation I might go down, and come back. I entertained thoughts of doing that myself, but the 5th place team had a nasty habit of losing every time I won, so I ended up playing for 3/4 and got 3rd.

Well when the team behind me defeated the top ranked team to bump above me, I saw the writing on the wall...I have 5 tough teams to face...I'd like the chance to go down season and then bump up, even if its a harder division...we'll see though.

Keep in mind that the league will be filled at the same time. So it could be filled with all human owners in say week 3 of next year.

True, but they'll all be beginners (or restarters, or GASP cheaters)...I will have a set system in place...

I'd ask myself if I'd really do something like this if I owned a real-life soccer team.
Probably not.
I say be a man, stay in the tough division, and stick it out. The point of the game is to move up to Division I eventually. If you can win your current series, you'll have really earned it, and you'll be better prepared to compete at the next level.
Just my two cents...

I have to agree there. Look at it this way, without competition, what incentive do you have to improve your team?
Say your in the toughest league in division 5. A division that puts up an average NSI higher than many of the division 4 leagues. By the time you move up to division 4, you should be ready to play really well.
OTOH if you play in a week league in divsion 5 and autopromote, you will be ill equiped to win in division 4.

I've just finished a complete season with only bots for opponents. Damn that sucked! Really dull. I'd take a top 5 d.IV division anytime over that lost season...

I guess that my view would be that even if I was not ready for D.IV I would still want shot at it.
a) Human competetion is much more interesting than computer whoopins.
b)I still think that you cana improve your team as much if you make smart moves, no matter if its in 5 or 6.
c) You would get made fun of for losing a relegation match to a bot team.
d) don't listen to bbors, his teams always suck.

That was too subtle within a list, so I felt the need to put it out there a little :D :D :D

Qwik stay in 5. Why do you want to go backwards. You never know what might happen next season. A great youth pull, a guy pops and few good transfer moves and you could be right back in the thick of things in DV. Also the raised level of competition in DV vs DVI will make your team better as your try to compete. Maybe V.56 will change a bit in your favor next year and you can pull out some wins.

I'm of the opinion...always always always go for the win. Upsets happen, and fighting for a victory is far more fun than coasting all year every year.
I don't like people who don't take advantage of where they are. Ask Man U Wannabes. Ok, or don't.:) Cause you can't anymore.
Stick it out. Like someone said, once you win the series, you'll be good enough to possibly win your IV series your first year.

If you intentionally demote yourself, you shall forever be known as "Qwikshot The Nancy Boy who runs the Ultra Nox Nancy Boys."
SI
And didn't you have a team before this anyways? The Quakers?

No Hatstats at US D VI. That alone is enough to avoid relegation.

If you wanted to throw a game wouldn't you jsut field a team with less then 9 players?

Hard to lose to a disastrous midfield. That wretched was far superior.
