Ok, I just had some people ludicrously spend on my trainees and extra players so I will have about a million bucks to spend this offseason and I want some help on deciding how to spend it so that I can stay afloat in the murderous Div IV I landed myself in.

First off, about $250K will go to stadium expansion but that still leaves a lot to play with.

My team has 4 players who definately aren't getting replaced:
High-solid keeper Tim Kimber
3-star Offensive Winger Mick Starks
3.5-star middie twins Carlos Alberto Benito (offensive) and Stephen Connors

A 5th who is unlikey to leave is pass/pass striker Edwin Phelan who is young and has been with me from the start.

But this is where the fun comes in. Here's the rest of my team- where do upgrades make the most sense:

1. I definately need a 3rd midfielder but do I go for a better veteran one or a younger slightly worse one who I can train like the one I just sold for a ton?

2. My best central defender is only passable- I definately would like to upgrade there.

3. My wingbacks are both passable/passable. A solid/pass one would be quite nice to shut down a good solid forward but how much will that run me?

4. A really wicked striker to replace 32yo Derrick Solomon? But he scored 15 goals in half of last year after being on the B Team the first half of the year with bad form.

5. Starks really boosts attack on his side but my other winger is pretty average. He puts up **~ but he really doesn't help the attack or defense much on his side. Still, good wingers are really expensive: is there an easy way to bulk skills on his side without blowing a ton of cash and not being able to raise anything else?

6. Also, I will need 1 middie trainee for next year and keeping back some purchase cash for a 17yo passable sounds like a great idea, but how much will that cost?

So, how would you budget $750K on those needs/wants if that's what you had to spend it on?

With all that cash, you don't need to get rid of anybody... you have the luxury of keeping a full-sized "b" squad around.

I'd be tempted to buy one really killer player - like a monster winger or IM - would probably make the biggest difference on your team. I'd go for someone younger than 25, so you don't have to fret about skill degredation for a few seasons.

Defenders

2 Solid/inadequate wingbacks and a Solid CD will set you back 350-400k.

Then i'd spend the rest on another kickass Trainee. Like a 18 year old Solid PM with really good secondary's and good stamina so he can start right away.

(I'm not cutting any more players- I sold all but a couple that I'm looking to get rid of. Now I'm building.)

I'm not sure I want to throw that all down on one player: I need help across the field. Then again, to those in the higher divisions: what would I get more mileage out of? Would I be better served taking my lumps in Div IV but having an awesome player for years to come or upgrading all of my team and getting a little fat and happy in Div IV, and holding off on buying elite $1M players then? Now you've got another thing going in my mind, franklin: Maybe I *should* just get a stud who can serve me for years to come. Or even a badass middie trainee with great secondaries who can start right away worth $1M.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Keep them coming- I'd especially like to see some of the big boys weigh in on the previous paragraph.

Damn.. You could buy the First Coast Conquistador Franchise from yours truly and still have enough $$$ left over for a couple of new Porsches.

PM me about this.. ;)

I'd suggest improving overall, if you're happy with midfield, and it sounds like you are, then move on to the offense. That's what run and shooting is all about, after all!

You'll most likely want some solid defenders on that back line, eventually.

I spent my million on two excellent playmakers and an excellent keeper.
