Will now grace us with his presence on ESPN.

The Drudge Report says that Rush Limbaugh will do a two minute essay every week on NFL Countdown and participate in sme discussions.

Imagine Irvin dressed in his best pimp suit discussing ANYTHING with ol Rushbo.

It will be the formerly nicotine-stained fingers against the formerly crack-stained plunging scissors into teammate's neck fingers.

I hope this is some kind of cruel joke, if it's not than NFL Countdown has lost all credibility in my book.

As I got in the car about an hour ago to go to lunch, I caught the last end of a sentence in which Rush was saying something about an ESPN press conference, and I was wondering what he was talking about. I guess this would be it...

If I remember correctly, he was being considered for the Monday Night gig when Dennis Miller got it.

Why? I don't listen to him at all but from my understanding, he's been doing NFL previews and commentaries for many years now. Is he really any different than the clowns they have on Fox or many of the ex-jocks/ex-coaches who cannot see the forest for the trees?

All my comedy writers have been banned, so nope not a joke.

Wasn't he a sports journalist at some point in his early career?

He was the PR guy for the Royals at one point.

This really isn't that far out of right field.

Berman: So, Rush, what do you think of the Broncos' offense with Jake "Doctor's a" Plummer and Clinton "Pass" Portis as the two main cogs?

Rush: Well, Boomer, I think that what the liberal Democrats want you to believe - and if you listen to them squalling day in and day out as I have, you'd know this - trust me on this one, folks - is this: the Broncos offensive woes are due to the lack of government intervention, and that - you guessed it, folks - we need more taxes! Yes, more infiltration of the federal bureaucracy into the NFL, into Mile High Stadium, into Mike Shanahan's office, and into the huddle with Jake Plummer. I think it's high time we take a stand against this typical, knee-jerk liberal response to every little problem or bump in the road."

Irvin: *crickets*

hehehe. Well, it may not be out of left field, but it's not that great.

"Is he really any different than the clowns they have on Fox or many of the ex-jocks/ex-coaches who cannot see the forest for the trees?"

No A, he probably isn't. But I'd say that's the problem.

If I gave Jimmy Kimmel a chance to try something new (talk show: P to the U), I can sure as hell give Rush a chance at something new. He talks about football a lot on his radio show and his opinions are not without thought, despite many people's beliefs to the opposite.

I will admit, however, that he is a strange pick for the network as he is definitely a "political" figure and they usually don't go that direction so as not to alienate a large section of their audience (assuming they even know who he is).

No, he wasn't the PR guy for the Royals. He was in charge of organizing I believe both the national anthem and the first pitch ceremony. Oh, and he was fired from that job, by the way. After that, he worked in a bowling alley.

I think it is silly to hire such a polarizing figure for a job like that. Dennis Miller is polarizing as well, but certainly not as much as Limbaugh. I can't stand him or his personality, so I if Monday Night Football had put him in the booth, I would have listened to the radio broadcast. Rest assured I won't be watching much NFL Countdown, and if I do I'm switching the moment he comes on.

As was mentioned earlier, Limbaugh does quite a bit of football talk during the season. I don't usually listen to his show, but it seemed like every time I managed to turn it on in the fall he was talking about the games coming up that weekend.

I'll take a wait and see attitude. Surely it can't be any worse than Dennis Miller and MNF.

This is a simple matter of economics. Limbaugh will bring in a mostly new audience of 20 million people to NFL countdown. Most fans of Rush follow him everywhere. I don't listen to him much, but my wife does religiously. And she said she will watch NFL Primetime this fall if he is on it (she wouldn't have even thought about it before he was added). You have to figure that a big chunk of his "non-football fan audience" will check him out on that show as well.

My guess is that built-in Rush audience had a lot to do with his addition to ESPN.

I have not listened to Limbaugh in about 7 or 8 years. Still, most of the people who have some problem with him don't even know what he talks about. They THINK they know, and that's all that matters to them. I found him far less entertaining as the GOP lost its appeal to me (he does seem to have a GOP bias, but that does not take away all of his credibility).

He will talk about football on the show. If he is good at it, he may stay and keep doing it. If it does not work, he will be out the door. It works that way with everyone that is involved. This whole thing is a non-event really. Nobody is losing credibility in the deal. It's a show about the NFL, and nothing more than that. Some people think this stuff is bigger than it really is.

I don't like his politics but when I've listened to his show I admire his showmanship and honestly, he's always been pretty clear that his aim is strictly entertainment. If others want to take him seriously so be it but unless I've missed something fundamental he has carved a niche in the entertainment world and milks what he does to the amusement of his audience but doesn't really try and pass himself off as a serious newsman.

I admire that and don't see why he wouldn't be smart enough to adapt to his new environment and leave the political humor on his regular gig. I'd be interested in seeing if he can pull it off, personally.

I wouldn't bet against him.

No offense, Arlie, but this "built-in audience" will be counterbalanced by the 20 million people who will never again watch NFL Countdown because they can't stand the fat, lying hypocrite.

It's a dumb business decision that will ultimately bite the Disney corporate death star on the a**. Fox has got to be licking their chops over this announcement already.

This makes you seem very uninformed. I have not seen a 'fat' Rush Limbaugh in more than 5 or 6 years, I think.

OK...maybe he's lost the weight since the last time I saw him (I haven't listened to his show in 4-5 years, and did then only under duress). Noticed you didn't touch on the subject of lying hypocrite though. :)

Because I don't care whether he is one or not, or whether you think he is one or not, and how could you tell whether he was fat or not by listening?

Last time I listened to the show he was still overweight.

Well, he does pop up on television from time to time, and did have a short-lived, unsuccessful television show a few years ago.

I know he does, which is how I knew he was not 'fat.' You must miss those appearances.
