<b>Golden Eagles Football Club - Season 20</b>

Welcome to Season 20 of the Golden Eagles FC. In our inaugural season, we finished third in V.167. We maybe could have finished higher, but overall I was impressed with how the team did. To view the Season 19 dynasty report, please click here (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7375).

<b>Golden Eagles FC Prepare to Make Run at Title</b>

Season 20 will begin this weekend and the Golden Eagles FC are working hard around the club offices to make the season a memorable one for the fans. Last year, in the first season for the club, the team clinched 3rd place after a late season rally. The club expects more success than last season, and in particular has its eyes on the V.167 championship.

“No doubt” said general manager Tim Brice when asked if his team could be serious competitors for the V.167 title. “We are literally working around the clock to make the pieces fit.” Brice indicated that the club’s offense should be much improved over last season. Recent additions Bryan Young and Grigore Dogaru are expected to provide a much needed offensive punch.

Brice, however, agreed that his team still had weaknesses that other teams could exploit. He said the midfield would have to be improved on and he is looking to add one or two players who are capable of putting up three stars a game. He also said they lacked defender trainees and would look to purchase a few more in the coming weeks.

He said though, that the defense is the strongest point of his team. Starter Jose Luis Larragoitti will return to anchor the defense. He will get help from young guns Daniel Ukenings and Archie Hurman. Stefan Silverman is expected to make the move to a winger for next season.

Last season, V.167 was won by the White Sox Pride. WSP auto-promoted to Division 4. V.167 will continue to see shake ups across the board. Colton Cannons, the team relegated, will receive a new owner soon, as well as two other teams, the Kansas Huns and Philadelphia Vikings, who promoted from Division 6. Pandas have been neglected by their owner and expect to be replaced soon too. Dead Rabbits FC will also join V.167, after thumping Archers in a qualification match. With owner stability so unclear, it will be difficult to see how the season will go.

“The league I think will be easier, but at the same time harder,” GM Tim Brice commented. “LA Scullkickers and Deutsch Fire FC both have old and experienced teams. With the new changes, they could see their NSI improve by as many as 10 points! Also, Dead Rabbits FC look to be owned by a very good GM, who has made all the right moves so far. But we are confident we can still win V.167.”

Only time will tell if Brice’s confidence will be answered. Either way, it should be an exciting season.

<i>Author’s note: While Season 20 does not officially begin until this weekend, I decided to go ahead and start my report. The reason being is that I am going on vacation next week and while I will have internet access, it is not clear how much free time I will have. Week 15 training results can be found in the Season 19 thread. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the second installment of the Golden Eagles FC dynasty.</i>

<b>Golden Eagles FC Roster</b>

<b>Starters</b>

Typical formation: 3-5-2

<i>Keeper</i>

#1 Jochen Schultz
Age: 23
Current form: solid(7)
Assessed value: $205,000
Wage: $1,920 p/w plus 20% bonus
Goaltending: passable (6)

Jochen was one of our first purchases for the Golden Eagles FC. He did a fine job in the nets in the first season. Jochen is only at a passable level, but he has high base form. He will remain the starter until a solid keeper is pulled from our youth squad.

<i>Central Defenders</i>

#14 Jose Luis Larragoitti
Age: 20
Current form: passable(6)
Assessed value: $89,000
Wage: $700 p/w
Defending: solid(7)
Passing: poor(3)

#21 Daniel Ukenings
Age: 18
Current form: solid(7)
Assessed value: $46,000
Wage: $792 p/w plus 20% bonus
Defending: passable(6)
Passing: passable(6)

#4 Archie Hurman
Age: 18
Current form: solid(7)
Assessed value: $30,000
Wage: $696 p/w plus 20% bonus
Defending: inadequate(5)
Passing: inadequate(5)

The defending for the club is currently the area under which we are doing the most shaking up. Goran Stankovic, a starter from last season will be sold soon, as will JC Vera who also played some games in the back. We will take that money and of course invest in young 17 year old inadequate defenders. The defenders will be set to play a ‘defensive’ role, meaning we will post monstrous defending ratings. Hurman should be very close to popping to passable.

<i>Inner Midfielders</i>

#3 Per Jansson
Age: 33
Current form: inadequate(5)
Assessed value: $43,000
Wage: $1,272 p/w plus 20% bonus
Playmaking: passable(6)
Passing: passable(6)

#13 Leonardo Chu
Age: 25
Current form: excellent(8)
Assessed value: $79,000
Wage: $890 p/w
Playmaking: passable(6)
Passing: wretched(2)

#8 Hans Karrland
Age: 30
Current form: inadequate(5)
Assessed value: $60,000
Wage: $1,322 plus 20% bonus
Playmaking: passable(6)
Passing: passable(6)

Our current slate of midfielders are above. Per and Leonardo will get bumps because they have good experience. Leonardo will play a defensive role, while the other two will play offensive roles. I am currently looking to upgrade this position and if I get any extra money after spending out on defending trainees, I will.

<i>Wingers</i>

#22 Stefan Silverman
Age: 20
Current form: solid(7)
Assessed value: $62,000
Wage: $840 p/w plus 20% bonus
Winger: passable(6)
Defending: passable(6)

#5 Grigore Dogaru
Age: 20
Current form: passable(6)
Assessed value: $79,000
Wage: $1,056 plus $20% bonus
Winger: passable(6)
Passing: inadequate(5)

Silverman makes the jump from defender to winger this season. We expect him to have good results there. He put up 2 and half stars in a recent friendly. Grigore was an off-season acquisition who we picked up who we have etremly high hopes that he will bolster our attack.

<i>Forwards</i>

#9 Dean Lander
Age: 21
Current form: passable(6)
Assessed value: $71,000
Wage: $948 p/w plus 20% bonus
Scoring: passable(6)
Passing: inadequate(5)

#10 Bryan Young
Age: 30
Current form: inadequate(5)
Assessed value: $46,000
Wage: $936 p/w plus 20% bonus
Scoring: passable(6)
Passing: passable(6)

We bought Dean Lander last season and he really bolstered our offense. Bryan Young was an off season acquisition and we are hoping for the same from him. We have high hopes that these two will be an impossible tandem to stop.

<b>The Rest of the Squad</b>

#11 Franz Schindler
Age: 24
Current form: inadequate(5)
Assessed value: $45,000
Wage: $924 p/w plus 20% bonus
Scoring: passable(6)
Winger: inadequate(5)

Franz has started some games for our club. He will serve in a backup forward and winger role. He also adds the quick specialty.

#12 Gabriel Fernandez-Cuesta
Age: 26
Current form: passable(6)
Assessed value: $38,000
Wage: $790 p/w
Winger: passable(6)
Passing: passable(6)
Defending: inadequate(5)

Gabriel gives us some versatility off the bench which is very valuable to our club. He will probably and give some starts at winger. He was an original member of the Golden Eagles FC.

#16 Dan Hatton
Age: 19
Current form: passable(6)
Assessed value: $15,000
Wage: $540 p/w
Winger: passable(6)
Defending: weak(4)

Dan is a younger guy we have who we strictly picked up to play wingback. He is young and can be a good defender some day, if we show patience with him.

#17 Thomas Shook
Age: 25
Current form: poor(3)
Assessed value: $15,000
Wage: $630 p/w
Playmaking: inadequate(5)
Passing: weak(4)

Thomas is a reserve midfielder and nothing really more. He has low base form and may be fired when we find a better suited replacement.

#18 Tyrone Pineda
Age: 26
Current form: weak(4)
Assessed value: $30,000
Wage: $720 p/w
Winger: passable(6)

Tyrone will serve in a back up winger capacity.

#19 Zane Devore
Age: 24
Current form: inadequate(5)
Assessed value: $19,000
Wage: $630 p/w
Playmaking: inadequate(5)
Scoring: inadequate(5)

Zane can come off the bench in a pinch and play midfield and forward if needed.

#20 Mats Ehngren
Age: 27
Current form: inadequate(5)
Assessed value: $61,000
Wage: $1,056 p/w plus 20% bonus
Scoring: passable(6)
Winger: inadequate(5)

Mats will probably be transfer listed soon. We are paying him way too much money to be our fourth string forward.

#25 Cutberto Ferrari
Age: 23
Current form: inadequate(5)
Assessed value: $83,000
Wage: $1,020 p/w
Goaltending: inadequate(5)

Cutberto is our back up goal keeper. He will log in action during friendly matches.

#6 Juan Luis Rodriguez
Age: 29
Current form: inadequate(5)
Assessed value: $21,000
Wage: $804 p/w plus 20% bonus
Scoring: passable(6)
Passing: inadequate(5)

We picked up Juan this past off season as a backup forward. He has inadequate experience which should help him out a lot.

<i>Match Report</i>

Pre Game

Due to an all-day shower, 3275 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at Hawaii Field.

Kickers had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. They fielded: Arellano - Hobson, Omalley, Bernabeu, Merrill - Marlow, Arroyo, Calloway, Mccarty - Richey, Bru.

Golden started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Schultz - Hurman, Larragoiti, Ukenings - Silverman, Jansson, Kärrlind, Chu, Dogaru - Young, Lander.

First Half

Golden took the lead by 0 - 1 after Bryan Young curved a free kick into the net.

Hans Kärrlind received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly, probably out of lack of experience, in the 28:th minute and almost caused an opponent to score.

Kickers were awarded a penalty 29 minutes into the game, but Luis Bru didn´t make a good job of it and Jochen Schultz managed to save.

Daniel Ukenings seemed to be floating in the air at will as he elegantly headed in 0-2.

The previous Golden corner kick was executed by Bryan Young.

The structure of the game started to change as Golden decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone.

Stefan Silverman of Golden received a yellow card in the 35:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 2.

Golden held the ball, with a clear 68 percent possession rate.

Second Half

Hans Kärrlind was, after 47 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors lead with a well placed diving header but home side keeper Clint Arellano saved.

Bryan Young increased the visitors lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 0 - 3.

After the ball got lifted in from the left Bryan Young was on his own in the home side´s penalty area 53 minutes into the game, and should have scored, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration.

The referee showed Goldens Per Jansson the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.

Golden held the ball, with a clear 72 percent possession rate.

Post Game

Kickers´s best player was Donny Omalley. Jeffrey Richey was a disappointment, however.

Most important Golden player was Jochen Schultz. Stefan Silverman on the other hand, had a terrible day.

The match ends 0 - 3.

<i>Comments</i>
We did not score as many goals as I thought we would, but this can probably be contributed to the rain. Bryan Young, our recent pick-up scored twice but should have scored more. Dean Lander really didn’t do much. Still, a 53 while PICing puts us in pretty good shape for the upcoming season. We are now as excited as ever.

We open Season 20 against our arch rivals in the Deutsch Fire FC. We have met DFFC twice, beating them both times. First Half

Some beautiful plays on the left side of the field resulted in a 13th minute goal by Dean Lander for Golden, putting them ahead 1 - 0.

The referee showed Deutschs Per Alexandersson the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.

Deutsch could level the score in the 35:th minute at 1 - 1, as Eduardt Langohr struck home after a fine midfield combination, leaving him completely unmarked.

I hate Hattrick. I really do. How in the world did I lose this game? I put up a plus 17 across the board, including a 2 level difference in the midfield and I lost 3-1 at home? If anyone can explain this, please do. I was very impressed with the way my team played. Our attack ratings would have been 3 to 4 points higher if Dean Lander did not get sent off. I think if we can duplicate this throughout the rest of the season we will be fine. This is just a tough loss to swallow.

I have no idea either.

Let's put this in perspective. Most of us are familar with IV.49, the self proclaimed Series-of-the-Beast. That is the series tha DK is in, for those who don't remember numbers. The difference in NSI would be like me knocking off the Ramblers at their place, 3-1. (Ramblers NSI last match was a 77). It simply wouldn't happen.

In today’s US Open Cup Match, we meet the Flying Ratas of VI.957. They are currently in first place in their division. Despite that fact, we really do not expect much of a challenge and we would be very disappointed if our cup run came to an end against this team. We did go ahead and PIC just to get our team spirit the needed boost (for your information we will PIC our league match on Sunday as well as our next Cup Match). The Flying Rastas appear to be from the Jackson, MS area so it looks like it is a Mississippi derby.

<i>Match Report</i>

Pre Game

At Flying Rastas Arena, 8000 punters turned up, and despite threatening clouds at the horizon, no rain came. Fans from both teams had been eagerly awaiting this Mississippi derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents.

Flying started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Chestnut - Shook, Sherman, Arroyo - Larsson, Church, Lester, Ryan, Landaeta - Vandyke, Parsons.

Golden had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Schultz - Marcum, Larragoiti, Higgins - Silverman, Jansson, Kärrlind, Chu, Dogaru - Young, Rodríguez.

First Half

After 4 minutes Golden put themselves up by 0 - 1 as Stefan Silverman finished off a strike from the left with a real cannon placed at the far post.

Goldens Grigore Dogaru got himself booked after a foul.

Stefan Silverman increased the visitors lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 0 - 2.

The home crowd brightened somewhat when Sammy Parsons scored with a header after an attack from the right, making the numbers 1 to 2.

In the games 29:th minute Golden´s Brandon Marcum fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Brandon Marcum for taking a dive.

Golden made a substitution in the 35:th minute. Bryan Young limped off the field and was replaced by Mats Ehngren.

The visitors Mats Ehngren took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side´s goalie and full backs in the 36:th minute. 1 - 3 for Golden.

The teams went for a half-time break at 1 - 3. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Golden, with an impressive 55 percent possession of the ball.

Second Half

Grigore Dogaru came close to extending the visitors lead as he, completely unmarked in front of the goal, lifted a ball over Joseph Chestnut, hitting the bar.

The away team´s José Luis Larragoiti took advantage of a mistake to the home side´s right in the 71st minute increasing Golden´s lead to 1 - 4.

Several players now looked tired, especially Donnie Ryan who quite horribly caused the 1 - 5 goal as he lost the ball to Leonardo Chu of Golden, who seemed to have some energy left.

The structure of the game started to change as Golden decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone.

Golden held the ball, with a clear 54 percent possession rate.

Post Game

The most dominating Flying player was without a doubt Lowell Sherman. Joseph Chestnut on the other hand, had a terrible day.

Most important Golden player was Per Jansson. Mats Ehngren was a disappointment, however.

The match ends 1 - 5.

We will take this win for sure after our heart-breaking loss to the Deutsch Fire FC on Sunday. It was nice to see the team rebound. A 5-1 win on the road while PICing is a nice luxury to have anytime. Our next cup match will be against the Hershey Squirts, a Division 5 team. We should have no problems beating them either, so it will be a PIC situation as well.

The first player to pop this goes to young 18 year old Archie Hurman. We have big plans for Archie. He is 18 years old and currently at passable. He should be at solid by the end of the season and at excellent in early parts of Season 21. Not bad at all for $1k.

George is most likely our best outfield youth pull to date. We plan on immediately plugging him into our defensive training program. He also has some nice secondary skills and we plan to use him as offensive minded defender. At this time, it is impossible to tell how close George is to popping in defending. However, I do not think it will be long and at worse case scenario is probably a middle of the road inadequate. But he could pop as soon as next week. If that is the case, an 18 year old passable defender with those kind of secondary skills would be a nice commodity to have.

After a slow start, we rebounded nicely and managed to beat this all computer team by the score of 7-2. The play of our defender trainees was not encouraging, but not really disappointing either. They have time to grow. Our congratulations to Per Jansson, who becomes the clubs first ever three and half star player. Our team showed character by coming back and winning, despite our frustrations lately, so I am happy.

Well, despite the fact that we played it cool, we still managed a 3-2 victory. Which is of course good for team spirit and team confidence. I was a little surprised the score was so close, considering our vast difference in NSI. But we all that does not go as planned, right? Anyway, we advance to play The Monarchs of Division four. This will probably signal the end to our cup run.

<i>Match Report</i>

Pre Game
At Golden Eagles FC Arena, 16110 punters turned up, and despite threatening clouds at the horizon, no rain came.

Golden had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Schultz - Hurman, Larragoiti, Ukenings - Silverman, Jansson, Kärrlind, Chu, Dogaru - Lander, Rodríguez.

ScullKickers started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. They fielded: Johnson - Keaton, Malmblom, Klanger - Moore, Grant, Schmitt, Harrison, Culp - Spear, Yew-leng.

First Half

The 6:th minute saw the home team take a 1 - 0 lead after a leak in the visitors right side defense. Scorer for Golden was Juan Luis Rodríguez.

After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, ScullKickers´s Dai Yew-leng got himself booked. In the 16:th minute ScullKickerss Ira Culp received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.

Golden were forced to a substitution as Hans Kärrlind couldn´t continue playing due to the rough treatment.

An indirect free kick in the visitor´s penalty area in the 19:th minute could have resulted in another goal, but Philip Johnson got a hand out and tipped the ball over the bar.

The teams went for a half-time break at 1 - 0. Golden, bringing the final ball possession rate to 58 percent, dominated the battle.

Second Half

ScullKickers got a chance to level the score as Ira Culp suddenly found himself free with the goaltender but the finishing shot hit the bar.

A couple of quick and successful challenges, followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area after 73 minutes might have resulted in another goal for Golden. However, Philip Johnson made a spectacular save.

A really bad tackle inside the penalty area in the 83rd minute gave the referee no other choice but to award visiting ScullKickers the penalty shot.

Bobby Keaton knocked home 1 - 1. Lawrence Moore of ScullKickers received a yellow card in the 85:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

Golden held the ball, with a clear 52 percent possession rate.

Post Game

Golden´s best player was Per Jansson. Thomas Shook on the other hand, had a terrible day.

The most dominating ScullKickers player was without a doubt Bern Grant. Garth Schmitt on the other hand, had a terrible day.

<i>Comments</i>
Another run of bad luck for the Golden Eagles FC. This is another example of a game we probably should have won. But when Karrland went down our midfield was weakened greatly and I knew we would have trouble. We are now actively shopping for another midfielder, despite the fact that Karrland will only miss the cup match this Wednesday. If you would have told me we would be 5th place at this point of the season I would laughed at you. I guess there is plenty of season yet to play though.
