I thought it was curling?

Yeah, I was just thinking the other day, that this conversation calmed down lately. Have not heard any new speculation. I dunno, why is it such a secret? The only thing I could think of is that it is a sport with no current game out there and Jim wants to be the first. Otherwise, I can't see what all the hush hush is about. Was hoping he would give some sort of hint anyway.

Here's (http://www.tabletop-sports.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=UpDownload&file=index&req=viewsdownload&sid=81&POSTNUKESID=74b2db65a59a5ecfccb99bd3c6446b2f) a curling simulation game, if you're itching for some whisky fueled icey action. It's table top, so it's all dice rolling fun. Haven't tried it.

Maybe we could have a 400+ post discussion on what Jim's next game will be? That could be fun.

it will be baseball

I believe it will be baseball as well. Not really what I want it to be, but I think that's what it'll be.

I think that it will be hockey or basketball.

As long as we're guessing, I'll take baseball as part-educated guess, part-wishful thinking.

a few weeks ago when Jim was semi-active he said he was reconsidering his silence regarding his new game... so we may(or may not) see an announcement sometime

I'd like to know what it is, although, it doesn't matter. He's still getting my $$ when it comes out.

er, note to damnMikeBrown - he doesn't use beta testers. No need to kiss up.

I think Jim's smart enough to know that the competition for baseball is going to be tough with OOTP 5. I'd go on to assume it'll be hockey or basketball, where there isn't much of a market, until the new EHM is out.

The new EHM is what I cannot wait for myself.

I for one hope Jim is working on a baseball game. OOTP is a popular franchise, but I believe Jim can build a baseball sim with a good interface that is fun and challenging for the solo player...something OOTP has failed to do yet IMHO.

Slamball sim

BASEketball would be a good choice.

Seriously though, I don't have a clue what Jim's next game would be. I'd guess something other than football. And I think it'll be out by the end of the year.

Jim will probably have some news in the next few months.

I am hoping for a Cheerleading simulation, with graphics.

NoMyths

If I had to guess...I'd say baseball or hockey. Baseball because while OOTP is (in my opinion) the best baseball sim on the market, there's incredible room for Jim's very clean style of improvement; hockey because it has far less computer game market share from any major (or even middling) companies.

Computer game market share. Four nouns in a row. Dig it.

Jim has already said that he wouldn't do baseball because you basically can see how good a player is by the stats available. I'm pretty sure he will do basketball....yet I hope he gives a hint.

SteelerFan448

Baseball would be pretty cool, hockey too. I like games where you can use a minor league system to draft and develop players, and then bring them up and send them back down as the season progresses, something football and basketball don't have.

I still think there is a chance he will do a non-sports sim; hockey is definitely a genre that is seriously under-developed but with the EHM/SI Games merger, plus a new one coming out from .400 at some point, there might be too much competition. Basketball would be nice but I'm not sure there's a huge market for a pro basketball sim. Baseball would seem to make the most sense sports-wise but, if he doesn't want to, that would probably rule that out. But he's definitely done a good job of keeping it quiet hasn't he? :)

I have been thinking/hoping Arena Football too, probably wouldn't have to re-write the whole game that way. The one time there was talk too he said "new sport" but said no not SlamBall....now I know Arena Football is not new, but just new getting more into mainstream. Oh well, probably noy, but, I can always hope this to be the one.

I hope to at least explain where I'm headed in the near future. I had a huge disappointment earlier in the year, and it has greatly changed my expected schedule. I am back to full-time now - Angela's doing a great job handling most of the baby's needs.

It is a sports game. But I had to change plans a few months ago, and am now working on a different sports game.

I don't know for sure, but I don't see anything wrong with making an announcement this fall.

I tend to think that means he was working on a new sport, but doesn't have quite the same time on his hands with the new baby, so he went back to revisit TCY or FOF, since it's familiar ground, so to speak.

TPF is scheduled to be released in October, EHM:FE maybe at the end of the year. OOTP6 is a long ways away, while Shaun is probably aiming for a February/March release of PureSim 2004.

I'd actually like to see what Jim would do with the amount of stats that baseball generates, but if it's football it will be interesting to follow the release of TPF and how that might shape the future of the FOF series.

From what little I know of Jim, I seriously doubt someone elses release affected his decision. I'm guessing he had to change his sport because of difficulty getting sufficient support data to design the engine or as Sack mentioned a lack of time to develop a "new" game.

If it's football, it'll be TCY2, not FOF5. Just a hunch.

If it's still a new sport...dunno. Probably baseball.

I sure hope that isn't it - having MLB rosters in a sim baseball game is just not a big deal to me. I don't know if he'd design the game in such a way that the player database was available for editing as in OOTP and Mogul (which would alleviate the no-MLBPA licensing issue), but even if he didn't it wouldn't stop me from buying it. I just want a good baseball sim that's based on how the game is really played and the real skill sets involved, with an intelligent AI and an in-depth minor league system and player scouting and draft...and...and...

...anyway, if it's not football I hope it's baseball. But I think it's quite possible that the theory he shifted back to football due to time constraints or something else could be very accurate, in which case I'd strongly suspect TCY2.

Oh...I was totally kidding about MLBPA licensing. I can't imagine that Jim would have been going that direction. It was intended to be a joke.

I've been wondering why Jim wouldn't know for sure about making an announcement in fall. Perhaps, he just isn't sure if it will be close enough to ready to make an announcement. But, maybe he is working with a company and has to check with them? I noticed .400 is now announcing that they will be making a college football game in 2004, and I wonder if Jim will be working on it and an announcement will come in the fall ;) Just my speculation obviously.

I've joked about Jim releasing his new baseball game with .400 studios...but I don't really think it's plausible. I sense that Jim is pretty happy with his (more or less) one-man operation.

If it were with .400 Studios it could be the same kind of deal it seems like OOTP has now, where Jim designs the game entirely on his own and then .400 handles distribution.

I completely agree. Unless a major publisher comes along, I don't see Jim doing anything other than what he is now.
