Is this game worth playing?

I would love to hear a run down of positives/negatives about this game.

Yes, play it. Just try it out. The only negatives is the site itself, cause it's kinda well the server seems to break sometimes. Otherwise, it's great game.

i'd say it's worth playing... i'm sure the other 100+ people here who play it would agree with me or we all wouldn't be playing... obviously

It's Highly addictive, and you will turn into a hattrick zombie within one week of getting your team.

I turned my friend onto the game almost a week and a half ago, he already has supporter, has drawn his logo up, bought some players, and is awaiting to kick some Div VI ass.

Speaking of, he is the Orient Express, and he is the same division as the one Shook brother.

The Shook brother is more of a 'son of Shook' :)

Ahhhhh! ok.

Anyways, I was looking at that series in Div VI, and believe it or not, there will be some battles down there.

I think it will be fun to watch.

Ironically enough, I convinced a friend of mine to play as well, and he's in the same division. He runs the Ben Arnolds (he's English, go figure).

Well, what do you think about their Series?

It's looking like a tough Div VI, and from some of the transfers and stats and such I am seeing, I think it will be.

I think that's how this game is going to progress. It's the flaw in BM's "brilliant plan". My series has actually gotten easier as I've made a few good moves, got really lucky twice and had the team with the best midfield promote. But, at one point I was planning on trying to demote to get out of a relatively tough series. Had I actually gone through with the plan I might have gotten stuck in a rougher D6 series than the one I'm currently in.

Good question... Is it worth playing? mmmh I'll give it a shot, but keep in mind that I may be biased a little (just a little ;) )

POSITIVES
it's free
it's addictive (both the game, your team, and expecially the transfer market, ask Qwikshot)
you play against other humans and the community is great
the FOFC Hattrick community is even better (you guys rock!)
You can put as much time in it, or as little time in it as you want and still have fun with it.
150,000 teams playing it around the world!!!
Did I say, it's free :)

NEGATIVES
may not be as deep as you'd want
may be a bit simplistic
you can get stuck in a very tough league and be unable to advance while other teams get easier leagues (but some other peopl, like me, might simply see it as a challenge)

Anyway, my main answer, after playing the game for the last 5 months, is a resounding YES!!! Yes it's worth playing, at least for me... It now only depends on you.

PS: anybody feel free to add to this list if I've missed anything...

OKay this may be a bit off topic, and going in exactly the opposite direction... But which do you guys consider better FOF (and which version?) or TCY? You know, if I happened to want to get one of them...

FrogMan

I like FOF more, but I know it's because I've never really followed college ball and I have much more interest for the business part of the NFL (salary cap, free agents, the draft, managing your roster, etc) than for the recruiting part of TCY.

I have just started a new career in FOF4, playing with the lowest possible Arizona Cardinals and trying to bring them up. I'd say FOF4 would be the best, I find it the most complete version. Maybe some people would say they liked FOF2001 of FOF2 better, but if you don't have any, I would say FOF4 is the one to get. That is if the NFL management part is your thing.

while i have nothing bad to say about tcy and would recommand it as a good game to purchase, i would choose fof4 simply put the best simulation of football on a pc

It all depends on what you're into TP, College Football or the Pros.

For me, TCY is far and away the choice..

Same with me. I LOVE college football, and I like TCY a lot better than FOF4. Maybe because I don't like having to deal with bratty players who want money. I just like dealing with bratty players who can't get money. Unless of course I bribe them, but it's very hush, hush.

Definitely TCY because I love college football and don't really care for the NFL.

Even though some people may gripe about the recruiting being tedious, it's my favorite part because I like recruiting IRL.

TargetPractice6

Okay thanks guys, I might go with TCY since I like college football just a bit more than the NFL. Who knows... if I like it I might get FOF4 too :) I'm a sucker for sports sims, but strangely I had never heard of FOF until I came to this board...

FrogMan

I'm sure you'll love it. As I, and many others, said, it's more a matter of what type of football you like more: college or pro.

Just finished my first season with the Cards, finished 9-7, didn't make the playoffs. My QB is getting killed. Time to go get some o-line :)

9-7 in '03 with the Cards? FrogMan, how many Coach of the Year Awards did you get? Hell, they ought to rename the award in your honor.

FrogMan
07-22-2003, 01:21 PM
didn't get the coach of the year, but got lucky. We won games we had no reasons of winning. The roster is crap and we only have 25 millions to spend on F/A in 2004. Kwammie Lassiter, our best player, is out of a contract too. He wants 5.8M... ouch... :)

You're probably getting a VERY biased opinion by asking that question here, but I say, YES, the game is worth playing. :)

On the downside, the server is awful and I'm still not sure I like these new rules...
On the upside, it's a GREAT distraction from working on my thesis (which is why I haven't been here in awhile...)

~terpk (sorry I haven't updated my sig file yet Havok!)

Of course, FrogMan, the 'it's addictive' part COULD go in the negative section, depending on how much one likes wakiing up at 4 in the morning to check on the transfer wire. :D

TP like college sports period... probably cause he's from KY and doesn't have a real team around (no the Bengal's still don't count).

TargetPractice6
07-23-2003, 09:06 AM
Exactly :b Although we did have an AHL team here at one time which was cool. However, hockey never really caught on here and they moved to Cleveland.

TargetPractice6

OKay so I bought TCY :) So I'm looking over the bowl and conference names, and I can understand why the real names aren't used. However, how can I tell which bowls and conferences are which so I can change them to their real life names?

FrogMan
07-23-2003, 12:21 PM
TP6, there's gotta be someone on the general discussion board that has made the mod in their game to reflect the real conferences and bowl name. you should ask them. You'll see, they're not dangerous :)

Yeah, well, between porn lego threads and war threads, they might see your thread asking for some TCY help. They might laugh at you too though, brace yourself :)
