We'll have another check-in about 2 weeks before the cup (Good idea FrogMan) to try to weed out anyone who has since given up on hattrick.

There's a sticky calle something like "officialish list of team" or something like. Go in there and post your team info, similar to how many others have done this (take a look around), et voilà!

Actually, in my two seasons in V.111, you were the only team to beat me, I think.

My record against you was 1-2-1, with my only win being a 1-0 thriller.

Ok, I'm prepared to have tomatoes thrown at me, etc for this suggestion and that's cool. I'm not trying to be a dick, but I think that perhaps there should be a priority given to teams that were in the cup last time, maybe even according to their finishing position (a reward for doing well last FOFC Cup).

My reasoning is that I know not everyone can get online every day like some of us, and some of our older, more established (so to speak) HT teams might not be one of the first 64 to volunteer for the cup. I know it's tough on the newer people, but I'm sure some people from last time won't want to be in (there were about three people I think that never showed last time), and some people won't show for this one.

What do you guys think? It's not a major problem for me, just a suggestion.

Of the 42 people that voted how they wanted the cup to be run 25 people said they wanted to go with NCAA B-BALL style tourny. With the top 64 teams that signed up playing in the major one. And the rest would go to a sort of NIT tourny.

Well we only have 55 teams so far. So it's looking like everyone who signs up will be in the Major Cup. Of course we still got a lot of time. I'm just curious as to what happened. We have like over 100 FOFC teams. I think 4 of which have a legitimate shot in the Cup, and count for a few that are inactive. But 40? :eek:

That's an excellent idea! I don't see why people would frown on this. Only people who are members of the federation would get that newsletter, this is some FOFC federation activity, why not promote it via teh federation newsletter?

That will somewhat influence my decision- I want to do a lot of international friendlies this year and if the Cup will take as long as last year, I may just step aside and let some of the new blood play.

This is the new cup...FOFC Cup IV. We should probably get to organizing this, because in about a week or three we're going to have most of the FOFC-ers that I know out of the US Open Cup. I know that I'm most likely out this next round...

Have we made a clear-cut decision on whether or not we're going to use the 64 team single elimination tourney, or the group play? Seems like the crowd is clamoring for single elimination...

I don't really know if it has to be 64. The one bracket maker allows up to 64 teams. But if we get more I'm sure I can figure out a way to make a second bracket and still make them part of the first bracket in a sense.

Well, we could do 128 really easy, but I don't think we'll have that many. Once you get out of the 2^n number of teams, it starts getting difficult to set up brackets. I think it might be time to bust out some of my old books and looking up numbers and things like this, and see if I can come up with a bracket system for an odd (odd as in weird, not odd-even) number of teams.

We have 65 or 66 (if you count MK, but not sure if he is still playing hattrick?) teams so far. I'm guessing we can have a play in game, and just go according to FrogMan's ratings for this week.

Well, I'm pretty much out this week no matter what...my opponents trainees put up Formidable midfields, so there's pretty much no shot. Plus I have a huge league match sunday, so a PIC is in order.

I guess we're running a single elimination tourney format...does anyone have a coherent list that has everyone who has claimed interest? I think we should start up a new thread putting more signups in for tomorrow night, so people will know whether or not they will still be in or out of the cup and therefore will be able to play in the FOFC Cup.

Ok, here's the plan. We're going to wait until September 3rd to start FOFC Cup IV. This way we can plan it better, and it will allow our still involved in the cup FOFC-ers to possibly get into the cup still.

With the single-elimination tournament style that seems to be the popular method, we won't need as long a time to run the cup...it should only take about 7 weeks, maybe 8. Later today I'm going to tally the entries we have in this thread to get an idea of how many teams we have, and then start a new thread that will be the real sign-up thread; don't post there unless you are already out of the cup.

If anyone has a problem with that or a suggestion for a better method, feel free to post here or PM me.

For those who might have missed it in the other thread...we might be incorporating first round byes to allow for the better teams to possibly get into the cup. The first round of FOFC Cup will be one week from this Wednesday, so if you plan to win then there might still be a chance that you can get in. I'll let you all know the full plan soon (it's still under construction).
