We have all (ok, not shorty, he hasn't had a girlfriend yet) suffered through some incredibly terrible chick flicks, but I am sure that there were a few you actually enjoyed. Share your experiences here so the rest of us will know what we are getting into when asked (or told) we will watch movie ________.

I bought "How to lose a guy in 10 days" on DVD a past weekend. Wasn't really looking forward to watching it, but did anyway. Besides some corny dialog, and McCaunehey (sp?) trying to pull the old cocky and funny (tm) routine a bit too much early on, this was a pretty good movie. I laughed pretty hard at some parts, and the story was decent enough. I would recommend it.

On the other hand, Moulin Rouge might be one of the worst things I have ever seen....I couldn't do the whole thing, I just shut it off about 3/4 of the way through. Terrible piece of crap.

I would argue that Mel Gibson/Helen Hunt "What Women Wants" is not a chick flick but if you assume it is, I would add that because it is one of my top 15 favorite movies.

Terms of Endearment was a great movie. As was Steel Magnolias.

I did not like What Women Want at all. *shrug*

My old girlfriend was really into 'Girl Interrupted.' I don't know if that counts but it was one of the worst pieces of shit I've ever seen. 'Dirty Dancing,' too.

I enjoyed What Women Want quite a lot.

I also liked Serendipity.

We watched 40 days and 40 Nights two days ago. I found it very funny, had quite a few laughs.

I consider myself lucky because the wife isn't too much into the YaYa sisterhood and Moulin Rouge kind of movies. Suits me pretty well I'll tell you :)

Serendipity was a good movie, but is it really a chick flick if it stars John Cusack?

I'm a fan of Moulin Rouge, too. Ah, well.

Yeah me too.

Moulin Rouge surprised me. I really liked it a lot.

Moulin Rouge is a chick flick? Well, then add that one to my list, please. Great movie.

I vote "yes" on Moulin Rouge and "no" on What Woman Want. To each his own, I suppose.

Fortunately, my dating is pretty limited now that I'm married - and I married a woman who doesn't really prefer "chick flicks." (Right now, she'd rather play poker. Keeper!)

I thought Moulin Rouge was probably the worst movie I've ever seen. I saw it in the theatre with 4 women, and we all sat there paralyzed by the horror in front of us. We were all really angry when we later realized everyone else hated it, and if any one of us had suggested leaving, we would have been out the door immediately. it was truly tragic.

What were you expecting going into this movie? I think the thing for me was that I had no expectations for the movie whatsoever, but I heard the soundtrack first. I knew that I would at least like the music, and so however the movie turned out I would still have that. Luckly for me, I found the cinematography incredible.

Is Miss Congeniality a chick flick? That was mildly amusing. Four Weddings and a Funeral was ok too. I also admit to having enjoyed Fried Green Tomatoes.

So you enjoy pure crap if it looks pretty on film?

Count me in the "Moulin Rouge is a painful experience to watch" camp.

I liked Moulin Rouge, especially the singing.

When Harry Met Sally, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Jerry Maguire are all great movies.

The worst chick flick ever might be "Dr. T and His Women." The first five minutes of it were more annoying than 2 hours of Jar Jar Binks. Me and the little woman shut that one off almost before it started.

Serendipity was okay, but I feel sorry for any guy who dates a woman like that. She should be shot for being such an idiot.

ditto.

I HATE musicals, but I like McGregor and Kidman, and I'd heard good things about this. So, when it was on HBO my wife and I gave it a shot. Turned it off halfway through - it was like watching a train wreck. I simply did not get it.

My choice for chick flick that I'll watch is Sweet Home Alabama. Of course, I could watch Reese Witherspoon read from a phone book.

So far, Fried Green Tomatoes and maybe Miss Congeniality are the only 2 chick flicks mentioned that I could tolerate.

What do you do if you’re dating a guy who went to see Moulin Rouge when he was visiting another guy? And who LIKES musicals? On the one hand, I was glad I didn’t have to see that crap with him. On the other hand, he likes musicals….?

(Really hoping he doesn’t kill me for posting this.)

Did I mention he likes musicals?

Where did I say that? I am trying to find out why he didn't like the film. I would ask the same question of you, but I'm sure I already know the answer.

EDIT: too many alreadys.

I never understand the interest in Reese Witherspoon's looks. I think she is quite unattractive with that blond hair, pasty complexion, too much makeup and worse of all, that gummy smile. Ugh.

Ah, I probably shouldn't have posted that. It was more of an inside joke dig at him. I constantly tease him about liking musicals, and fortunately, that's his only gay tendency (and there would be something wrong with that if he's dating a girl!).

Speaking of chick flicks, we went to see Two Weeks Notice while we were visiting his family and had nothing else to do. So bad. I can't even express how terrible this movie is. They actually tried to make a joke out of Sandra Bullock's character having diarrhea! How disturbing is that?

Anyway, I hate the idea that movies like that are lauded as chick flicks. They're just bad flicks. Stupid girls and stupid guys like them.

You forgot the pointy chin :) She's not one of my favorites, but she's ok. She was tough to miss in the recent pictures I've seen.

I did catch part of Sweet Home Alabama that my wife rented. She's not a bad actress at all, esp. compared to her awful contemporaries of Drew, Diaz, et al. Speaking of chick flicks, I caught most of Ya Ya on HBO while on a trip last month. It was confusing but enough tension to want to know how it comes out.

My god, I didn't even notice the pointy chin. That's bizzare.

Not as horrid looking as Nicole Kidman can be, though.

To back up my claim on Kidman

Why celebrities and fans think that blond hair, pasty complexion and hooker-type makeup look good is beyond me.

I don't think that's that bad a picture, and I've always thought of her as a redhead. I'll take a "porcelain" complexion over a tan any day.
