Madden Online for PC

I read that it has free online play, so I'd just like to know who will be playing online for the PC? I have only played previous Maddens against two friends, so I don't know how people really play. I could beat one of my friends most of the time, but lost most of the time to the other. :P I want to play against different people, and see how I compare to them. :)

Playing online is really only good if you're playing against people you really know. Too many cheesers out there. The good part about the PC version is the fact that you can really customize it. There are normally plenty of roster files for it. But then again, with the advent of the Action Replay device for the XBOX/PS2, all those rosters might be coming over to the console side this year.

I still don't undertstand.... if you own a PC why on earth do you want to waste your time playing with a console?


Consoles cannot match a PC for customizability, or variety of control, or even visual quality for that matter. You're playing it on a television for christs sake. how does anyone think that the visual quality can be BETTER that way? the resolution alone is reason enough to play on the PC.

what possible advantage, beyond lining the pockets of the console game companies, is there to shelling out hundreds of dollars for a system that doesn't come close to even rivaling your own PC's gaming ability?

Because the PC version of games like Madden are just an afterthought. They often don't have all the features of the console version (shoot, one year they released a 1 year old console port for the computer!), and they are always buggy as all get out with patches very slow in coming and many times not even fixing the problem. Then there is the number one reason: No NCAA for the computer, so no draft files.

Plus, it is just more fun on a Console.....bigger screen to watch the action on, even though the graphics are not as good as a PC. I never had much luck with a joystick on a computer either.

PC is not my graphical games compartment. Unless it's an FPS, or something to that extent, I can't really get into it. I just cant play graphical sport games on the PC. Don't know why. I guess I'm weird.

Now you are sounding just like me and my longtime rant against consoles.

GrantDawg, I would dispute that. EASport's TW2003 has more features than the console version because 1) you have a keyboard and a mouse, 2) you have real CPU that can provide an AI and 3) it doesn't have a 3-year old graphics technology. Whether Madden is an afterthought, I don't know. Last year's version seemed to be really good on the PC. With this year's version and it's increased Owner/GM features, it still has to be dumbed down so you can run it on a console. On a PC (if they did it right), you can have a full-fledge FOF/TPF-type game and still have room for all of the graphical stuff.

Playing with friends on a console while sitting on recliners is much better than crowding in front of a computer monitor trying to play a game of Madden. Almost every console game I have either wasn't available for the PC when I bought it or is a game that I play with friends.

I'm not arguing for all games. I imagine RPGs are many times better on the computer, and I wouldn’t purchase one for the console regardless.

I also wasn't arguing that games that are programmed FOR the PC are not better. If they would program Madden for the PC instead of making it a port, I wouldn't bother with the console (except maybe again for draft files from NCAA). My point is currently Madden is made for the console, and oh by the way will throw together this PC version too, and we might even get around to patching it after a month or so for you to be be able to actually play it with it randomly crashing to desktop for no apperant reason (Madden 2002, the last PC version I owned).

By the way...TW2003 has been a buggy piece of crap on my system. I have to turn all the graphics down to the minimum just to keep it playable, and even then I crash to desktop many, many times. I wish I had of gotten the console.

I still haven't heard a convincing arguement beyond tha game makers refusing to program for the PC....

Controller problems? BS, I have a gamepad that is identical to the PS2 on my computer, works amazingly well, and its programmable, so I don't have to get stuck with any of the preset button uses if I don't wish to.

Playing with friends? hrm, I have 6 USB slots, I could have up to 6 people playing a game on my pc....not sure why this is a problem. the cables for the gamepad are really long too, so we could sit as close or as far off we we wish.

I'm not saying its not entertaining, I learned to play madden on the PS2. Thats why I went out and bought the game for my PC.

I'm not saying anyone is wrong for buying the console, every man can choose for himself. I guess I'm just a bit baffled that no-one else is insulted by the console companies treating us like morons, since we act like them by buying thier systems.

TO SELL MORE CONSOLES, period. There is no honest reason beyond this. They want more sales of consoles, so they force the football fanbase to buy their equipment if they want to enjoy the new game, which even then, isn't as good as it should be for the price.

They can whine all they want about not getting enough profit from the PC version, thats bunk, the PC version sells just as well as any console game. and they make just as much from it.

It always comes back to the company seeing a way to force people into buying their lconsole game systems.

That would be a great arguement, if EA made a console. They don't make a dime off the consoles sold. They make money off selling games, and if the money were in the PC version, then they would be putting their money there. The fact is even with the number of PC on the market, it is easier to sell console games to the unwashed masses than it is to sell them PC games that take much more expensive systems and usually have compatability problems out the ying yang. I wish that weren't the case, but it is.

Pentium 4 1.8ghz
896meg MEM
Radeon 8500 video card with 128meg mem
Pro sound 128 sound card

Does that sound like a VW? It is well above (basically doubling up) the recommended requirements for the game.

I'd say the typical PC has probably a 19" monitor and is located at a desk with a computer chair sitting in front of it. I'd guess that most consoles are located in family rooms with sofas and chairs set around for multiple use and the tv's are probably at least 27" if not larger.

Yes, you can play with friends in front of the computer, but in the typical setup a console is much more appealing to play with friends.

I play on both the PC and the console. The PC is nice for some of the reasons mentioned above, but I don't want all my buddies hanging out in my office.

My big screen has very good resolution and is in a "public" room. If that were not enough, console games are written to work on ONE hardware platform with an optimized operating system. Comparing your PC to a console is a bit apples and oranges because of this.

I thought the gaming Sony/Microsoft/etc... actually lose money on each sale of a console system, compared to the cost of designing, producing, shipping and marketing it.

I am fairly certain they take a loss on the sale of each console in order to make the huge gain on the sale of each game, joystick, memory card, network adapter, etc....

Can somebody back me up on that, because I am not 100% sure if what I heard is true.

If so, ender, your entire argument falls apart and you will have to come up with another one. ;)

I have the latest. It is just one of the flaws of programming for the computer. Everyone's system is a little different, so there are always some people that are going to have problems with certain games.

20 people with 20 computers equals 20 different setup.

20 people with 20 Xboxs equals (for the most part), 1 setup.

Plus, I own both and play both because some games are usually on 1 platform. If everything was available across the board on both PC and the consoles, I'd play PC games. Unfortunately, that isn't the case...

As for PC vs consoles... I have two friends that will play sports games... no one else cares for playing Madden. I don't have a 27-inch TV either... so playing with a bunch of friends in a public place isn't really an option for me. lol. That's why I want to play online, but I guess I can't. :P
