Well, I attempted to play zangband last night for the second rogue-like contest, but I just couldn't get into it for some reason. Right now I still have interest in playing angband and advancing the character that I was playing with in that game. I even got a friend of mine to play angband and he is hooked on it now too. The two of us have talked about playing mangband (multiplayer version of angband) as that might enhance the gameplay experience. I have decided that I'm going to set up a mangband server tonight for us to play on, and I'll post the ip address and any other necessary details in this thread once I have things up and running.
Feel free to jump on and join us if you are interested. Things should be ready by 7:30-8:00 eastern time, if not sooner.

Thanks!
Just a heads up, I don't think it works on XP.

Well crap...
Maybe I'll try a different flavor then if I can't get mangband to work. I think there are 3 or 4 other multiplayer rogue-likes out there.

Dola.
Are you referring to both the client and the server not working on xp?
I was under the impression neither worked under XP, but I could be wrong. You can check the forums and verify that.

Browsing their forums under Port Specific Discussion it looks like a lot of problems with Windows XP has been addressed with various clients. It might take a little work to get everyone up and running though.

TOME has a multiplayer version I believe, TOME-Net-

Haven't played the multiplayer version of TOME, so I don't know if its working currently. Also be warned if new to Angband like games that TOME is Angband with everything and including the kitchen sink thrown in.
ToME is probably my favorite one right now. I'll have to check out the multiplayer version.

On the download page it says that the mangband windows server has "severe latency issues". Unfortunately my Linux box was converted to XP and given to my parents when my sister moved out and took her pc with her.
I will look into the multiplayer TOME game, although I haven't played TOME yet. However I am determined to play SOMETHING rogue-like and multiplayer tonight. If worse comes to worse we can just jump on a public mangband server.

Dola.
It looks like TOME and TOMENet are maintained by the same guy. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you can run your own TOMENet server, but must play on the public server. The webpages for TOME and TOMENet are the same. Just click the "switch to TOME/TOMENet" link on the left navbar to flip bewteen them. I might give this a try tonight.

I tried TomeNet once, and was turned off by the real time aspect. Also the dungeons are permanent, unless the game has recently been restarted. Same for the artifacts and uniques.
Now some of this may have changed, since I havent played TOME since it first switched over from Pern.
I just like the turnbased stuff better. I am in no rush to play and dont have to worry about something killing me while im in the bathroom.

Is this going to happen or no?

Sorry, but I just could not get a windows server running and from what I understand that is not uncommon. Perhaps we can get together some night on a public server somewhere.
