View Full Version : Tiger Woods 2003 FOFC League
Season 1's first event is the Royal Invitational at Royal Birkdale total purse is $1,000,000 which will be divided among the winners depending on how many enter. Season 1 is a tour of the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. 20 events in 20 "weeks" with a lttle something for everyone. Four FOFC Major events are on the schedule with very inflated purses: The Legends Classic at Muirfield Village, the US Open at Pebble Beach, the British Open at St. Andrews, and the FOFC Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
A reminder. To participate in this league, there is no sign-up. Basically, you just get the Game watcher utility, play your round with the correct settings using your FOFC golfer (name him with your FOFC username, please) and mail me the verification file. You don't have to enter every event, just play when you can. The league home page, with more detail is
FOFC Tiger League (http://www.cox-internet.com/pwatts14/tiger.htm)
With that said, let's have a large field for the Royal Classic! Deadline is Tuesday the 12th (midnight, central time). Make sure to use Tour difficulty, Tournament tees, and the condition settings that are listed on the site. If these settings aren't used, the round will have to be disqualified. Post comments, questions, stories of your round, etc.! Let's have some fun!
Forget to mention. Most of the courses on the tour are custom courses, though we start out with two stock courses at the beginning for simplicity. Custom courses can be downloaded from
http://www.sportplanet.com/tigerwoods/
Post any questions you have about the process and I (or others) will be glad to help.

What golfer do we use? Do we create one? Do we need to create one at the start of career mode?
Newbie here. :-D
Kevin
Create a golfer specifically for this league. You might even name him FOFCCeleval or something similar, to make it very easy on everyone.
Also, this has nothing to do with career mode. At the main menu, you must select "Play Golf" to play a round and be able to choose the golfer and all the correct settings you'll need.
By the way, only one round per player will be accepted (if you messed up a setting, you can of course re-do your round). In other words, say you submit a round of 74 and it's verified. You can't submit another round.
Kind of going on the honor system that you are submitting your first try for the round. I dont think the spirit of the competition if for a player to play 20 rounds and submit their best one. In fact, the verification file shows how many times youve played that course with that player with game watcher on, so I can see if you are doing that. So, please, just play your round once, submit your score, and that's that.
Already had one player submit a round. Unfortunately, it was disqualified because it was played on Pro difficulty and Back tees. Make sure to play on TOUR difficulty and Tournament tees.
Good luck!

Are we allowed to practice on the course before we use the game watcher for submitting? I would like to think we could run through the course one or two times just like the real golfers do, but if nobody else is doing that then I don't want to be seen as cheating.
Practicing is of course fine. Just dont turn on game watcher until youre ready for the real thing :)

Ok. A couple of more questions. What happens in a tie? Is there a way to play playoff rounds or are we going by some other system?
And it would be cool to play multiple rounds on some of the bigger tournaments, have to make the cut and everything. That might be too time consuming, but I thought I throw the suggestion out there.
was considering the latter, for sure, but thought wed start off simple and get people interested first. its a bigger committment to play multiple rounds.
as far as a tie, yes we will have a playoff round, same course. if its still a tie, it will remain a tie.

Everyone grab the patch too, just in case. You can find it at EA Sports.

Dola.
Okay well maybe you shouldn't grab the patch. Since installing the patch, I can't get the game to run. I click the icon, and it asks for the courses disc, which I happily supply and it still asks for it. ARGH.
ouch :(
BTW, it should go without saying that you should play with gimmes and mulligans OFF. Forgot to mention that.
I just played my round. I wont announce any scores until after the deadline. But I would like to run this by you guys:
Since you cant verify my scores, I will provide two proofs of my round scores:
1) A screenshot of the verification file opened in the viewer (shows ALL information about the round - its what I see when I verify your scores).
2) screenshot of the game scorecard (back 9) that shows immediately after the completion of a round.
I took these two things for my round just completed. Id like to know if there is general agreement that this is enough proof of my round. Or if you have better ideas for future rounds.

Potentially dumb question incoming. Where do you get the game watcher utility from?

You can get it from the FOFC Tiger League site above.

Speaking of potentially dumb questions, how does the fofc league config file work?
I d'loaded it into the 'Leagues' directory under Gamewatch, but it is there as a document, not a file, and is not recognized in the league drop-down menu when I try to start a game. How do I get it into the league directory as whatever kind of file it needs to be so it will be recognized and 'chooseable to play a round?
Thanks
edit to add word 'config.'
Just make sure its named exactly fofc.config and not fofc.config.doc or something like that. Make sure you have windows set to SHOW extensions for registered file types or else it will have that .doc or whatever extension and you wont be able to see it. That may be the most annoying default setting on the planet.

Question:
Which swing style are we using, if any specifically? There are some that give you an advantage to straighter drives and such without much skill, and then there are others that actually require some skill to use. Should we select one and go with it or just let everyone pick their own?

MJ4H, I have no idea how to save it as fofc.config, nor do I know where to go to check if I have 'show extensions for registered file types.'
Help!!

al, when you're in My Computer, click on the Tools, then Folder Options. Click the View tab, then search the options there for something similar to: "Hide extensions for known file types". Make sure that box is unchecked, and then you'll be able to see all the extensions of a file when browsing your hard drive.
Then go to where your League folder is for TW (where you inserted the fofc.config file. It should read just as that, but if it shows up as fofc.config.doc, right click the file, choose rename, and just delete the .doc part of the name and click yes when it warns you that you're changing the file type and it should work properly.
Hope this helps.

I unchecked the "Hide extensions for known file types" as indicated.
I went to the folder and renamed it (it was an html file for whatever reason) fofc.config. I hit return and it says "If you change file extension, the file may become unusable."
When I go to Gamewatcher, it says, before the program opens, "fofc is a corrupt config file" or something like that, and there is nothing in the league menu.
I'm gonna reinstall the gamewatcher AND the fofc files and hope. In the meantime, any other hints?
Get http://www.cox-internet.com/pwatts14/config.zip and unzip it into the leagues folder. this should prevent any "help" from bill gates & co.

Sounds like Al is having as much fun with the config file as I was having trying to get my verified file to work in the reader thanks to Billy boy.
Getting better guys. We have 6 entries for the Royal Invitational at Royal Birkdale. We could sure use more. If we have 10 or less total entries, only top 3 finishers will get paid. 1st = 65%, 2nd = 20%, 3rd = 15% of the purse.
If we have 11-20 total entries, top 5 will get paid. 1st = 65%, 2nd = 15%, 3rd = 10%, 4th = 7%, 5th = 3%
More than 20 total entries, top 8 will get paid. 1st = 65%, 2nd = 15%, 3rd = 9%, 4th = 4%, 5th = 3%, 6th = 2%, 7th = 1.5%, 8th = 0.5%
Keep the entries coming guys!!

The deadline is the 12th. I was wondering up to what time you'll accept them. (I'd do it now, but it's 2:30 AM and I got to get some sleep. I could have it by 5PM at the earliest)
midnight tonight (central time)

Post the leaderboard.... Post the leaderboard! :)
OK the leaderboard is up. Congratulations top thelamighty for winning the tournament! Check out the link to the leaderboard on the home page
http://www.cox-internet.com/pwatts14/tiger.htm
The leaderboard is not sorted by finishing order, but the top 3 finishers are listed at the bottom with their prize money. Also, the next even is listed on the front page. It is at Prince Course at Princeville. Deadline is Saturday night. Once again make sure to use the appropriate settings, Tour difficulty, and Tournament tees! Good luck! Since I didnt finish in the top 3, I didnt bother with proof of my round, but its available upon request. Have fun!

Looks like a good round for some, and a few guys that need to hit the links a little more, no disrespect intended. I know I had to practice a bit on Tour level before I got it down. My chipping and putting still bite me here and there even now.

Not too bad overall, 10 shots behind the winner but thealmighty seemed to have a great round. I didn't take advantage of the soft greens on the course enough but hope to place in the money the next event.

Putting is my worst aspect. That is a major reason for the 55- wet greens meant I could go for it on every hole with, for the most part, impunity. Therefore, I basically didn't have any putts of any length.
I suspect scores may be a bit higher this week with dry greens. At least I hope so, since 55s don't happen too often.

Played a practice round. Did not go to well. (on Princeville)
Those greens are WICKED (or else I managed to get in the wrong spot on every one of 'em)!!!

Yeah I ran through a couple of practice rounds too. The only thing I came out with is that I need more practice.

Well, I finished up my round. Didn't do all the great, but I was lucky enough with some great chipping to cover my numerous mistakes.
For some reason I just lose my swing half way through every round I play. After about 6 holes of hitting everything perfect, I gotta fight through the next 6 or 7 with toe's and inside-outs. Anybody else experience this problem? Reminds me of playing real golf, except for the part where the first 6 holes are perfect. :)

I use the Vertical TruSwing style and move up and down several times, eying the movement, to make sure I am on a perpendicular line to the screen. I try not to 'swing' to fast cuz that's when I usually screw up.
I am usually very good and consistent with everything except putting- I almost never make one over 20 feet unless it is straight.
My round was good (I hope), but considerably worse than the first tourney because with dry greens, I can't aim at the pin as easily so have longer putts that I don't make too often.

Oh lordy what a round. Between my putting and the trees on #8, I almost killed myself. Those dang dry greens had everything rolling long, and I couldn't read them right to save my life, or my score.
In an effort to get a few more entries, the deadline has been extended to 24 hours from now, 4pm central, Monday. Not very many entries to this point.
Leaderboard is posted.

Congrats to the top 3. Season money leaders are now shown at the bottom of each event page, too. Info on next event forthcoming. Joshua Ridge is a custom course. Please download it and install it ASAP. Deadline for next event will be Friday midnight. Ill probably start a new thread with a discussion about Joshua Ridge and any experiences you guys have in your practice round might be worth adding to it. Good luck!
