Just a little commentary on a phenomenon discussed a little while back...

The family and I were eating at a restaurant yesterday, and at a table nearby was sitting a couple I'd say probably in their 40's, a teenaged boy (maybe 16 or 17) and a teenaged girl around the same age as the boy. The girl was wearing a white t-shirt and a pair of short black shorts (think Hooters shorts, but black). An outfit I wouldn't exactly want my daughter going around in. It didn't quite seem to match what the boy and parent types were wearing - more conventional shorts, button up short-sleeve shirts/polos. Oh, I forgot to mention - there was also a baby at the table, about a year old, which looked to belong to the two teens! I wonder if she felt "empowered"?

Also at the table directly behind my wife were what looked to be a grandmother, a mother, and another set of teens. Oh, and another baby. From the way everyone was sitting, it looked like the teens were the parents (the guy was for sure). I'm hoping the girl wasn't - maybe she was the guy's sister - as she looked like the might have been younger than the other girl.

On a related note, did you see the newsweek story about teenage prostitution (http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/micro_stories.pl?ACCT=617800&TICK=NEWS&STORY=/www/story/08-10-2003/0001998144&EDATE=Aug+10,+2003) ? FBI Officials say they're seeing girls as young as NINE enter prostitution, and they're also seeing a huge increase in the number of middle class, well adjusted teenage girls whoring themselves out.

From the story:

"Potentially good sex is a small price to pay for the freedom to spend
money on what I want," says 17-year-old Stacey [not her real name], who liked
to hang out after school at the Mall of America, Minnesota's vast shopping
megaplex, Newsweek reports. After being approached last summer by a man who
told her how pretty she was, and asked if he could buy her some clothes,
Stacey agreed and went home that night with a $250 outfit.
Stacey, who lives with her parents in an upscale neighborhood, began
stripping for men in hotel rooms -- then went on to more intimate activities.
She placed ads on a local telephone personals service, offering "wealthy,
generous" men "an evening of fun" for $400.

NINE?!?! Oh boy.

Um, where did "Stacey's" parents think she got a $250 outfit, anyway?

I know it might be wrong,
but I'm in love with Stacey's mom.

It's not wrong to be in love with Stacey's mom... it's just wrong to pay Stacey $250 to strip for you.

Nice FoW reference, however. :)
