ok, I am no where near being able to buy one but, now that you have a choice. Do you think that you shou purchase a balanced coach and just play your game normally or get either a offencive/defencive coach and just focus on the opposite to balance the team.

As stupid as this sounds:

"It's really up to you"

However, you decide that you want your team to be run. I think that you can probably make it work as long as you have the right mix of players and stradegy.

My theory is that goals win games.
Goals win tiebreakers.
And you can always buy a good defense.

I base my coach on my training. ie:

I train scoring so I've got a defensive coach since my attacks will go up with training.

if I trained defense, I'd get an offensive coach since my defense would be very strong with 4-5 guys back there. and improving with training.

if I trained midfield, I'd get a balanced coach to even out the field.

I'd also get a balanced coach if I trained wingers even though they're mostly for attacking purposes.

Alot of, if not most, people get the type of coach for to match their playing style. ie: (yes a NFL comparison) a player that likes close games (3-0,3-6, etc...) would get a defensive coach. teams that like blowouts would get an offensive coach, etc...

Like Pilot said, it's all a matter of preference.

I think I would put a corrolary on the words of the esteemed gentlemen from Erlanger, Kentucky and "Lost":

If you train defense or offense, pick the opposite
However, if you train middie or winger or goalie, pick offense because of what PilotMan said: goals and goal differential. Not only that, but the most popular formations (3-5-2 and 4-5-1) need more help in scoring than in defense. There are no "legal" formations that have any less than 3 defenders but the max you can have on offense is 3 so it's likely that your offense will need a boost much more than your defense.

I posted a thread kinda like this last week. Im torn btw a offensive coach and a "niether offensive or defensive",

I prefer a balanced game and i have a feeling defense is slowly gonna get more important in HT. So im leaning towards a "neither offensive or defensive".

But the only guy i know that has one is Dataking. I wish i could find a few more teams that have one so i can get an idea of how well they work.

I am probably in the minority hear- but I train defense and I like having my defensive coach. I run a 3-5-2 in league games and I can put up some very good defensive ratings- and with my great defense I have only given up 4 goals this season...When I get a new coach at the end of the season I will probably go with defensive again, but I am not positive on that. My ratings on defense from my last game were
Right Side Defence: formidable
Central Defence: brilliant
Left Side Defence: brilliant

and from my most recent frield (early today) with the 5-4-1
Right Side Defence: formidable
Central Defence: magnificent
Left Side Defence: outstanding

I have always enjoyed more defensive matches so I guess thats why I like the great defense and not so great offense...When it comes time for a new coach it will be between Defensive and neither attack nor defense minded- but I am going to have to go with Havok on this and wait until i see if the neither is a good option or not.
