I just payed £64,000 / $96,000 for this player:

Dino Penzo (12662960)
29 years, wretched form, healthy

A sympathetic guy who is calm and honest.
Has weak experience and passable leadership abilities.

Speciality: Quick

Nationality: Italia
Assessed value: 41 333 £
Wage: 1 040 £/week
Owner: MVfree
Warnings: 0

Stamina: inadequate Goaltending: wretched
Playmaking: inadequate Passing: wretched
Winger: passable Defending: solid
Scoring: wretched Set Pieces: poor

Career Goals: 0
Career Hattricks: 0
League goals this season: 0
Cup goals this season: 0

I know the form is bad , but I'm not competing for my league title this season, so I have time for it to come round (and probably some General training in the off season). Assuming he reaches decent form for next season, this is a really, really cheap price for a solid/passable wingback.

Thoughts?

If his form goes up it is a very very good buy, if not then its still an Ok buy- I would think you could sell him for $140k if his form gets up to poor

Great buy. I was scouring the wires for a guy like him earlier this season, and couldn't find any that stayed under $115k or so, and those were the cheapies.

Pretty solid buy. I've had others with similar ratings that have gone for far higher. If you have a LOT of confidence in your defense, you can also try playing him offensive when you get his stamina higher to get a boost in both midfield and wing offense.

I wish you a God-like form increase and you'll have a steal!!!

Have you checked the general form of the players on his former team or if he played regularly in the last few weeks. This could tell you if his wretched form wasn't simply due to a badly run training program or a lack of playing time...

Ok, I'm calling out the "common" knowledge of low form players. Was it ever said by any HT person that this is in fact true? I'm beginning to believe that a player can just be in a form funk, for the same reason that you can flip a coin and get the same result a dozen times in a row.

I believe there is a "base" form, but I think what people sometimes assume is that it is constant. At least, that is what I thought for a while. In other words, they believe that a player who has been in low form for a while will tend to stay there. I have learned through watching one of my players that with proper playing time and a lot of assistant coaches that the low "base" form can be fixed.

That's my 2 cents, anyway.

Per the rules, there's a "target" form value, and the form curve dictates how a player moves toward that target in the form update.

Only 1/3 of your squad gets a new "target" each week, so it's definitely possible for a player in a funk to stay there for a while. I estimate a player has about a 20% chance of getting passed over four weeks in a row, which would have to seem like an eternity for a guy mired in a slump.

I recently had two guys in wretched form. I've played them in three straight friendlies, but I only just had one go up to poor form. The other is still in wretched form, but I'll keep playing him and eventually he'll go up.
