Not exactly a noticable different in ratings there. Though the match engine did show a lot of attacks to the left/right.

my painfully limited understanding is that wing attack or central attack doesn't change the ratings, only the frequency....

That's what I thought as well. I assume that it will make checks for your attacks against their defense on the wings more often than against their central defense.

I won 8-0.

6 goals came from attacks on the wings. One special event, and one attack in the center. Seemed to work pretty well for me as I used my stronger wing attacks.
