Hello everyone and welcome to yet another episode of "FrogMan is shopping on his lunchtime" show!!!

After getting some nice crowd income fro the vary latest home match of his Pittbulls, FrogMan decided to spend a few lunch hours shopping around for a possible player that could improve his team. With the 162k received from last Sunday's home match, the Pittbulls were now at around 50k in the red, that left him with a max of 150k to spend before the Hattrick server told him the dreaded " You haven't got enough cash to make this offer ". He went on and set himself a limit of 125k for his spending fun.

Shopping started on Tuesday at lunch time. With the team's two pure wingers having form trouble (one solid winger/passable passer in poor form & one passable winger/inadequate passer in inadequate form) some searching was done with "winger >= solid" with and without some passing, but always with at least weaks experience. Many players were bookmarked. Another possible position that could use some improvement was on defense, so I also searched with "defending >= solid" with at least inadequate experience.

I got into two mini bidding wars, one yesterday and one today. I say mini, because given the limit I had placed on my spending, and given the fact I kept myself in check (yes, I can do that sometimes :p) I just bailed out of the bidding both times, fairly quicky. Both times, the bidding was for two solid defenders with passable experience, capable fo 3.5 stars. One of them was ni bad form and would have been a project, the other was in passable form, but both players ended up selling for over 150k, well over my limit.

There was a player I had seen and bookmarked in the Nederlands market, some sort of an offensive wingback, something kind of missing with my team. Deadline was set for 12:50 pm eastern. I looked him up during the break in the morning and just before going to lunch and the player had only one bid for the opening price, 100k. I felt I had a chance... I went for lunch in the cafeteria and got back around 12:45, ready to see his price ballooned to 140k or so, but no. 12:47 came and BOOM! I made my bid, a mere 102k, teh minimum bid necessary to take the lead in the bidding. Well, wouldn't you know it, nobody bid on him and he is now a Pittbull.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome Kelvin Boom, new starting wingback and backup winger for the Pittbulls :D (I think I'm falling for cool names a little sometimes :)

Kelvin Boom (5536246)
28 years, solid form, healthy
A popular guy who is tranquil and upright.
Has weak experience and wretched leadership abilities.

Speciality: Head

Nationality: Nederland
Assessed value: 152 000 C$ (that is 76 000 U$)
Wage: 2 568 C$/week including 20% Bonus
Owner: Pintendre Pittbulls

Stamina: wretched Goaltending: disastrous
Playmaking: poor Passing: weak
Winger: solid Defending: passable
Scoring: weak Set Pieces: disastrous

He played in all of his former team's matches (friendly and league) since August 13, and steadily got 3 stars everytime he was played as either a defensive or normal wingback, and even got 3.5 stars on August 17, when played offensively. This is how he will play this week, as an offensive wingback.

I like sharing my stories, and since in here I can find people who will read them, well I tell them :) You think I did well, you think I overpaid, post it here.

Unlike with God, who was a bit of a gamble with his wretched form, but turned out to be a pretty good buy, this dude can step in and help my team. He will replace a passable defender with inadequate experience, Daniel Hellsjö, who has only poor winger skill, but was played defensively. Daniel was able to give was able to give us 3 stars in solid form, and sometimes even in passable form, but he mostly hovered around 2.5 stars when in passable form...

Whatever you think, and I'm interested in hearing about it, I like this buy. Maybe I overpaid, but most of the guys I targeted (solid in some skill) were going for way over 125k, so at noly 102k, I felt like I had something in my hands.

Now , whatcha think? Yay or nay? :)

God and Boom. Great combination of names!

I like the buy. My two comments would be that: 1) as an offensive passable defense wingback, if you play a symmetric 3-5-2 (ie, 1 centreback), don't forget to play him on the side of your centreback and 2) with his current wretched stamina, you *may* run into a fatigue event goal but I'm told that once you get him to weak, that should stop.

thanks DMB and daedalus.

daedalus, that was already clear in my mind that whenever I'd go and play Boom (you gotta love that name!) offensive, he would be playing next to my set pieces dude (passable defender w/inadequate experience, 2.5-3 stars) while my sole solid defender would man the other wingback spot, playing defensively...

This would be an usual lineup, but this week, I will probably go all out. I'm playing that newbie who plays a 5-3-2 with 2 wingers and only 1 inner mid. Has been getting disastrous midfield ever since he started, with no better than inadequate attacks (2 out of 3 with the last a weak), but he's got that kickass defense (formidable-outstanding-solid last week). So I figure I'll fight fire with fire and go all out while making sure I still get a pretty good midfield. This means I'll play a solid and an inadequate passers at midfield, both played offensively and on God's side, I'll have Boom and my top form winger (most probably Peltola with passable winger/inadequate passing) on offensive... I will probably need the other wing toward middle, since this time the game is at his place. Last time I played them, we won 5-0, pulling attack ratings of formidable-excellent-solid to his formidable-oustanding-solid defense ratings... We had only a weak midfield but got 88 & 91% possession :) Should be fun this week. Let's hope the engine doesn't screw me over...

I'm also aware of the stamina issue, and it was probably the one big issue I had with him. But since I'll be doing at least one week of stamina during offseason, I thought he'd have a shot at improving it. Just too bad I didn't buy him yesterday since I'm just coming out of a week of stamina training...
