Reading the paper today and come to find out one of the local theatres is going to have a marathon of all 3 Lord Of the Rings Movies on one day.
The Two Towers, and Fellowship are going to be the extended versions which will be followed up by Return of the King.
Of course I will go see this, but it makes me wonder what they would do for Star Wars.
Oh here's a Link (http://www.national-amusements.com/lotr_trilogy.asp) to see if a theatre in your area will have one of these showings.

I'm so going if that do that around here (which I'm sure they will).

That would be a long time without slapping myself around. People look at you funny if you are doing that to a tree that runs. I am a sucker for long legs though.

How come this is only being offered to damn yankees???
This would be a good rehabilitation for some criminals, but then you get into the whole thing about cruel and unusal punishment.... :)

They're only offering this to Ted Nugent and Tommy Shaw?

The list of theatres is available on lordoftherings.com, it's a /very/ limited release (something like 150 theatres nationwide). Only one in Atlanta, GD. :-)

It looks to me like lordoftherings.com is a site for LOTR games, not for the movie franchise...

Here is one of the more well-known fan sites. It has a more complete listing. Good news and bad news GrantDawg. GOOD NEWS: They are doing this in Atlanta. BAD NEWS: The only theater so far is in Chamblee.

Hey, I can drive to Chamblee. They do let us out of this part of town every once in awhile. :) I bet that someone closer picks it up.

I find it hard to believe that there's only going to be one theater in the DFW area thats going to show it.
Damn, I would have been better off if I still lived in El Paso... :(

I can't imagine doing that in the comfort of my living room, let alone in the discomfort of a movie theater.

I'm guessing you may be right. As the time grows closer I expect some of the theaters with a large number of screens to do it.

Sorry, meant .net rather than .com
Buzzbee, GD - from what I'm reading, it's limited release to only those theatres; rather than a pick-up thing.

Could be wrong, hope I am - especially since it'll not be easy to get tickets.

I can imagine doing it from the comfort of my home where I can pause the DVD when needed for bathroom breaks, phone calls, food, etc. In fact, when my copy of the extended edition of Two Towers arrives I'm going to see if I can handle the first 2 back to back.
I can't imagine sitting in a theater for 10+ hours for all 3 though, even comfy ones like the Cinerama in Seattle. Plus, can you imagine the magnitude of geekiness that will be collected in one place for this? I admit I'm a LotR geek, but the ones who'd subject themselves to this and be willing to wait in lines for months ahead of time to buy the tickets is a whole level of magnitude higher on the geek scale.

I know tickets go on sale tomorrow, but anyone know how to get them? Do I order online? Do I have to the theater? I have class, so i can't exactly camp out to make sure I get tickets for this. Guess I can just call while I'm at work or something.

Holy shit, click on this link https://www.fandango.com/ticket_box_office.asp?movie%5Ftitle=L%2EOT%2ER%2E+TRILOGY&barcode%5Fflag=0&row%5Fcount=854729695&theater%5Fpkey=1673&chain%5Fid=REGL&theater%5Fid=AAERB%5FLIVE&rating=&genre=&mv=79745
This is for the Greenville showing. $35 for tickets to the shows. This is 11.66 a movie. I can get student tickets for the first showing on Wednesday for $6. I wanted to do this, but I think I'll wait now (plus I'd have to buy my girl's ticket, and a $1 service charge each. PLus the necessary food between/during movies to survive). I'm not paying over $100 to see 3 movies when I can own 2 and pay about $25 w/ food to see the other.

And now it's time for an extremely cheesy LOTR joke...
TALES FROM THE SHIRE
Two hobbits walk into a bar where one of them picks up a barfly. They take her to the local motel;the first hobbit goes into the motel room while the other waits outside.Once the door closes, the hobbit on the outside hears strange noises through the door,"i can't do it, i can't do it, I CAN'T DO IT!"
In the morning, the second hobbit asks the first,"How did it go?" The first one answers "It was embarrassing,I simply couldn't do it."
The second hobbit shook his head "Manhood problems,eh?"
"NO, I couldn't get on the bed.

Just did something remotely similar, Blade and I watched the Godfather trilogy (9 hours and a minute) straight, first time viewing for us both, though we experienced some major attention issues during the 3rd one, mostly because it was such a departure from the first two rather than not being able to make it through.

FYI, the Atlanta Chamblee showing went on sale around midnight; apparently, and is sold out. There's still a showing in Columbus, but not sure if that's still on or not.

Back in 1987 I saw all three Star Wars films in the theater back-to-back-back. It was some special 10 year anniversary thing. It was fantastic. I'd highly reccommend it. It brings out the hard-core fans, lots of cheering, booing, all that kind of stuff that adds to the movie-watching experience, assuming you've seen the movies before. (It's not an ideal way to see something for the first time.)
Ever since I heard about the LOTR movies, I've been waiting for the right weekend, after all three (extended versions) are released on DVD, to invite a bunch of friends over, make some chili, and settle in for a Middle Earth marathon. Preferably this would take place on a cold/rainy fall Saturday (if Michigan isn't playing, or playing someone not so good) or Sunday (if it's the Lions' bye week). TMI. I know.

Eh, just the part about the chili.
While I loved the first two movies, there is no way I could sit in a theatre that long and watch all 3 back to back to back. I might be able to do it at home where I could pause it and take breaks. I guess I'm just getting too old.

Wow, the DC showings are both sold out.
As of noon EDT, they still had not published show times. As of 1:54, both shows were sold out. Curse work for interfering with me clicking the refresh button mercilessly during that time period.

i would totaly do this, the theatre that's doing the trilogy isn't that far away from us.
but it's on a Tuesday. i'm not taking a day off for that. why didn't they have it on a Saturday, or even a Sunday?

i don't think it's best to do that if only cuz you waited 1 year for ROTK to come out - why tire yourself out by watching like 6 hours worth of movies ahead of time? the seats in theaters aren't that comfortable.

I got my ticket today. $25 for 3 films starting at 1:15 here and ending sometime after midnight with a 30 minute break between each film.
It'll be fun, and I don't really have anything better to do that day(My off day from work and UC will be on winter break by then)

Cool! Sounds like alot of fun. Also there will be several trips to the potty room....
I try and not eat or drink anything for movies like this....also try to potty first before entering the theater. I love when guys get up to go the potty room after they have scarfed down a large p-corn and large girgle drink.
I look that those guys and say....you weakling!
I hope some theater in Mississippi takes up this idea....this would be a good day to hang out.
Enjoy the movies!
