View Full Version : Update on the Wal Mart Situation - they still suck

Hey,

I was sitting here bored. For most this is the middle of the night but this is my day time and I'm off work so there aren't many things to do exactly. After the thread about Wal Mart I decided to take a ride to the walmart. I needed to get something to eat and there is a Steak and Shake nearby so off I went.

I wanted to see if they had Etherlords 2 but they didn't so I picked up a couple of other games to tide me over. They had the original Night of the Living Dead dvd packaged with Kingdom of the Spiders for under 6 bucks. I'm thinking cool because the dead trilogy is my favorite movie series ever; I like movies where humans get their comeuppance.

So, I pick up a few more things and go to check out. There were four lanes listed as open but only one had a cashier and they were busy. I realized that you just needed to stand at a lane and eventually somebody would take pity on you and check you out.

This thing comes up and I try to be friendly. I say hello and she turns away and says nothing. Not one word. I try a 'hows it going?' and still the total lack of any communication. Fine, she's having a bad night.

Ok, I decide to pay with my debit card but I want some money for the shake. I ask for 20 back. When the thing rings approved she grabs the receipt, hands it to me and says "oh I closed the drawer and there isn't a manager here, you're going to have to wait until I check the next person out.

The next person purchased $242 items of groceries. They had 2 buggies. I had to stand there for about ten minutes while this poor excuse for a human being slowly went about checking them out. Finally, without a word she hands me the 20 bucks and goes back to finishing bagging them.

This is total bullshit and negative customer service. I can't believe it and it will cost them my business that they rarely got anyway. I plan to call the manager in the morning and let him know why and give a piece of my mind.

It wouldn't have been a biggie if she'd at least tried to play the game of appearing to give a shit but she couldn't even bother to do that. That's why I'm pissed not the initial mistake.

Anyway, I gave them another shot and all I've got to say is "move along people, there's nothing to see here."

Now, I've got some games to install.

I went to Walmart today to get a copy made of one of my keys. No complaints about the service, just about the bitch who let her brat kid throw a ball against the wall of the automotive department over and over again without saying a word even though the ball hit people several times...

Why can't people control their kids...

Apparently after she didn't control her kid she clocked in and got me as a customer. :D

Ok, here's a quick rant about one of the games I got. I don't really have a point to the entire thread but to rant so I'm going to use it that way.

I picked up C.S.I. Now, I've NEVER seen the show but I usually find show based games to have high production value and more simplistic gameplay and I've really not often been disappointed by this formula.

While I was waiting for it to load I read some reviews ( hadn't done this before ) and they were saying it's too simplistic. Now, I'm drinking a few beers and trying to unwind so simplistic sounds fantastic.

But...

I'm going through the tutorial mission, erm, case, and basically I'm presented with a tied up strangled woman. I go through the evidence collection tutorial and that's cool though not really telling me anything I don't know yet.

Now, we get the following gem. I'm searching a piece of cloth ( possible murder weapon ) and I find a hair. Great, evidence. The game however chooses to remind me, "This is a hair and it's not the victim's hair color. This proves that someone other than the victim was here."

WTF, I was considering suicide? She tied herself up then strangled herself. Hell a kindergarten kid can rule out suicide but me, a trained professional might get this wrong? Talk about breaking immersion big time.

I fear I'm going to have to drink a lot to enjoy this. :D

Not really but it was a mindnumbingly stupid thing for the game to say.

To continue being random the two games I bought were Law and Order ( I have seen this show and like it ) and C.S.I. I considered this my murder mystery weekend.

I started with Law and Order but found that although they included many patches already integrated on my CD I needed yet another one or two to continue. Interestingly enough they said the most important patch I needed was to allow me to play on directx 7 or below but I bought the machine with 8.1 already stock. I won't quibble though, the game works now.

I started playing, because I could, the CSI tutorial while I waited for the dl's. I later found out I didn't need the CSI dl as my disk included it but no mention of that on the website. Oh well.

My ONLY point is, now, with two patched games and having played both intros, CSI seems to be the way I want to go. It grabbed me more in it's 15 minutes. I am looking forward to both games but CSI seems more interesting at this point.

Time will tell.

Wal-mart is a shit job with little to no benefits. For the most part the positions are filled by folks who are probably living below the poverty line eking out a meager existence. You are not getting Kelly Ripa-clones, my friend.

Does that excuse the cashier's behavior? Of course not. But I hope you weren't suprised. You go to Wal-mart to save money - and THEY are able to save you money by turning the screws on absolutely everyone in the food chain - their suppliers, distributors, contractors, and employees. All so they can give us low low prices.

I'm guessing the cashier you got is probably a complete troll with little to no inter-personal skills and probably even less going on in the "game of life" department.

Look, I have given up long ago trying to expect any type of courtesy at places like Wal-mart or PetSmart or {insert name of corporate behemoth retail chain here}. Customer service is a niche market and if I want to be treated with respect and decency I'll just go to Nordstrom's or Whole Foods.

So save your complaints. Worse comes to worse you are going to get the troll fired and she'll end up spitting in your drink when she gets hired down at the Steak and Shake.

Oddly enough, I've discovered where these customer no-service technicians end up.

After they've been fired by Wal-Mart, et al, they go to work at Hardee's. After they're fired by Hardee's for not having two brain cells to rub together, they move on to a new career ... in the traffic department of your local cable system. They're the ones in charge of making sure commercials run where they're supposed to.

Just a little tidbit from a guy who is now spending his 14th day in a row trying to correct errors made by people like that.

Well remember, I chose customer service as my career. Because I have chosen this field I have met and exceeded standards that are above what the average customer expects. This is for my own satisfaction though. I understand the trade and wasn't expecting miracles. She was not a typical employee. She excelled in the poor customer service catagory with an effort that almost required thought.

It was to the point that no matter what they paid her, she, as an individual simply didn't give a damn. We run a revolving door call center where I work but I can honestly say that I've never encountered one of us who would treat a caller this way.

I've met lots of folks who would give as good as they take if you provoke them but everybody, even the ones who don't last, at least try.

I've been in the customer service business for over 15 years. I've owned three businesses and worked for many others. I am good at what I do and I am proud of it. I don't expect excellence from a poorly paid person who really doesn't want to be there but I do expect a certain level of competence that goes with learning a job. She was nowhere near close.

I've only ever had to fire one person but this is the only other person I feel needs it. She needs a different job period. I would not have her working for me.I wish her all the luck in the world but she better learn a trade or something. She doesn't belong in front of the public.

ps: She wasn't even remotely cute so I can't cut her some slack that way. Hey, I expect to do better than her and my expectations are pretty low. That says a lot. :)

Yeah, give a call to the manager, that does wonders at Walmart, if that doesn't work, get a hold of the district manager, then the regional VP and so on.

How did the discussion of Wal-Mart come from "sweatshops" to Wal_mart's customer service, sounds like jealously of Wal-Mart and its success.

Not that I like Wal-Mart..I hate the service and hate it when they ask to check your recepits and bags walking out (and next time, I might file a lawsuit for that practice). However, I can see the concept being the success it is. I think once Target and K-Mart get on the ball, and catch up to Wal-Mart, they'll won't be a "giant" Like they are.

I don't forsee K-Mart getting on the ball, unfortunately. Going into one these days is like going into a 3rd world market.

Since I now am in the rant dynasty mode, and I like the idea by the way, what are you even trying to say?

Most questions, and the word "how" tips me off that this may certainly be a question, do end in a question mark.

Still, even if I add one here on my own initiative I don't know what you're asking. I can understand the individual words but together they make no sense.

I wish I knew who I stole that last sentence from.

They didn't dare ask me for my receipt. I don't normally do pissed off very well but last night I pulled it off to perfection. The receipt checking lady walked over to me and our eyes met and mine plainly said "don't you dare" and she literally took a step back and watched me walk out. :)

Hey, I'm the K-Mart fan but I agree with this. I liken my relationship with the Mart to the one I had when my grandmother was dying with alzheimers.

I loved her and I would stand by her but it did everybody a great service when she finally passed.

Yep, exactly how I feel about K-Mart too. :)

Speaking of K-mart, do they actually put the correct price on items anymore? I've gone into a K-mart maybe 3 times in the last 2 years and all 3 times I've bought something it rings up a different price than was marked on the shelf. Perhaps you need some type of conversion chart to shop there? The shelf price says this light bulb should be $1.59..check my conversion chart...Ok, so it will cost $2.19 when I take it up to the checkout counter.

Well this one definitely made the "I'm going to check move." It's sad really, she was even smiling. She looked like a nice person, maybe someones grandmother. Maybe even my grandmother before she got alzheimers.

And I had to be the meanie who took the smile off her face and made her take a step away for her own safety.

It sucks to be the bad guy :(

but sometimes it's sooooo worth it. :)

Oh, I was totally reared on K-Mart, went there all the time with my mom as far back as I can remember. Wore Traxx through elementary school, always had McGregor cleats. Rode the coin fed horses in front of the store, spent ages in the toy section trying to decide which Star Wars figure to buy, purchased my old 45's there.

Soured on K-Mart when I went to one here and tried to return a sit and spin I had bought (bought another one at the in-laws afterwards and brought it back with us after our trip), and they accused me of not having bought it there because it was sealed with a piece of tape, and "they didn't use that kind of tape". Nevermind that I had a receipt. I DON'T appreciate being accused of anything as a customer by two-bit whore clerks with nary any brain cells to bump together....*deep breath*....anyway, after that I've decided shopping at K-Mart is no longer something I want, or need, to do.

I'm not sure but my local Winn Dixie is the worst ever in this regard. I've quit shopping there because it isn't worth the hassle of getting three or four price checks per visit. I like to buy sales items and they never enter them into the computer.

They have a lady who's supposed to do this, she's even some sort of manager as her picture is on the manager board up front but I forget her title.

Still, she's another of the people who really need to be fired and find a job more suitable to their skills but at least she acts nice when she admits that she was trying to rip you off.

Not that I ever advocated a boycott but I certainly wouldn't now. As it stands there is one store I will most certainly not go into again and my personal nightmare of a cashier still works there. Anything that could possibly force her out of that store and into somewhere I actually enjoy shopping at is a bad thing and I oppose it.

I've even been reconsidering calling the manager but I'd like some free stuff or a coupon or something and I may get that by complaining. :)

In Quebec, they passed a law that if the price rings higher at the checkout counter than the price advertised, either in their ad or on the shelf, they have to give you a $10 rebate, or give you the article if it's worth less than $10.

You still need to be quite attentive to what price shows up at the counter, but still...

What's the deal with the name of that store, anyway? "Winn-Dixie"? Still bitter, are they? I never got it. Of course, when I lived down there, I thought "Ingles" was pronounced like the Spanish word for English.

damn daytonians...

the last time i went to walmart here in illinois, i was shocked at the customer service I had received. I didn't think I'd ever see that at any retail outlet...

I called the manager up and gave him my compliments on his staff... he was surprised that someone would call up and give praise like I did.

I expect, nay, *demand* courtesy whether I am shopping at WalMart or anywhere else. These employees are in the service industry, if they can't handle that they should be fired and replaced by someone who can handle it. The fact it might be a "shit job" makes no difference - if they can't handle a "shit job" like working at WalMart how on earth are they going to be able to advance to better jobs or even become a CEO someday?

To Axxon: If I were you I would have made a big scene right
there before walking straight to the store managers office and demanded that they fire her while you waited. I would have also tried to inconvenience as many other shoppers waiting in that line as possible since after all the world revolves around me. Having a bad day is no excuse for slightly rude behavior, these kind of people need to be learned more better.
